The Las Vegas 51s offense has finally woken up over the last nine games in which they have scored 70 runs. During that stretch they have gone 7-2 after starting the year 6-10. They have numerous players hitting well right now including Travis Taijeron (11 games), T.J. Rivera (10 games), Gavin Cecchini (seven), Brandon Nimmo (six), and Ty Kelly (five) who are all riding current hitting streaks.

Who’s Hot

Wuilmer Becerra – St. Lucie Mets

Calling what Becerra is right now hot is simply an extreme understatement, he is 18 for 34 (.529/.568/.618) over his last ten days (nine games). He has struck out only three times during that span for the season and has dropped his K-rate over 5% so far this year. For the season he is batting .400 which is the fifth highest batting average among the entire minor leagues.

Ty Kelly – Las Vegas 51s

Another guy who’s hot stretch isn’t limited to just recent success, the versatile switch-hitter is has the second best average in the entire minor leagues at .421 in 72 plate appearances. Over his last 13 games, he is hitting .486 with seven walks compared to only five strikeouts.

Brandon Nimmo – Las Vegas 51s

On April 26th, the Mets outfield prospect was hitting a measly .206/.275/.238 while striking out 15 times in 16 games in a hitters league. Since then, he has gone 11 for 24 with three doubles, three walks and seven RBI during his six-game hitting streak. The 23-year old has gone 7 for 22 this year with runners in scoring position. Nimmo was on our Who’s Not part of the list last week.

Gavin Cecchini – Las Vegas 51s

I forewarned you that you would see a ton of 51s hitters on this list and it’s a great sign for Cecchini who started off the season very slow. During his seven-game hitting streak he has 14 for 25 (.560/.607/.800) including his first Triple-A homer. Before the streak started he was hitting .182 and is now at .300 for the season.

Dominic Smith – Binghamton Mets

The first base prospect makes this list for the second straight week after being included on the Who’s Not part the first two editions this year. Over his last eight game the talented 20-year old is hitting .355/.429/.581 with two homers, ten RBI and seven runs scored. He also gone four straight games without striking out after doing so 21 times in 19 games to start the year. For the season he has a career high .170 ISO.

Kevin Taylor – St. Lucie Mets

The Mets signed the left-handed hitter to a minor league deal this offseason after he spent the last two years playing in independent ball. He has hit pretty well for St. Lucie all year but has picked it up lately, going 10 for 28 (.357/.455/.643) with two homers and five RBI over his last eight games. On the season he has walked ten times compared to seven strikeouts.

Who’s Not

Jhoan Urena – St. Lucie Mets

For the second straight season the talented third baseman has gotten off to a rough start to the season hitting .222/.278/.311 currently in 2016. He did have a six-game hitting streak from April 23rd to the 29th but has now gone 1 for 12 with four strikeouts over his last three games. The switch-hitter has only five extra base hits all year in 90 at bats.

Luis Guillorme – St. Lucie Mets

The defensive whiz is coming off a MVP season and just hasn’t hit yet in 2016 while having playing put of position. He is 2 for 20 during his last his five games and only 6 for 34 over his last nine. He has a lone double for his one extra base hit on the season and is hitting .234 in overall.

Milton Ramos – Columbia Fireflies

Another defensive specialist that has struggled mightily with the bat so far in 2016. He has gone 3 for 20 with four strikeouts in his last seven games. For the season he is batting .191/.257/.235 with 17 K’s and only five walks. His lone offensive bright spot has been him going 6 for 13 with runners in scoring position this year.

Daniel Muno – Las Vegas 51s

The terrible season continues for Muno who has gone 2 for 24 all season but did pick up his first hit since Opening Day on Wednesday night. He has struck out a whopping ten times and does not have an extra base hit.

Tyler Moore – Columbia Fireflies

Unfortunately for the young catcher the 2016 season has started exactly like the 2015 one went. He has gone 3 for his last 24 dropping his slash line for the year to .182/.233/.218. He has two doubles on the season which are his only extra base hits to date.
