Unfortunately for the Mets minor league squads it has been a busy week in transactions because of numerous different injuries. with Binghamton getting hit the hardest amidst an awful May that has seen them go 6-12.

Here are the roster moves for this week:

Las Vegas 51s

  • May 19th – Catcher Jeff Glenn placed on the 7-day disabled list, he was activated on the 16th and got only one at bat as the third catcher. He has been healthy all year as he works as the 51s emergency player.
  • May 18th – Infielder Niuman Romero was promoted from the Binghamton Mets to the 51s. He went 2 for 4 in his debut Thursday night while playing shortstop.
  • May 17th – Sean Gilmartin was sent down from the Mets. All he did was pitch five scoreless innings with five strikeouts for the big league club.
  • May 17th – Infielder Matt Reynolds was promoted to the Mets. He has gone 0 for 4 with the major league team after hitting only .238/.303/.369 for Vegas.

Binghamton Mets

  • May 19th – Left-handed starter Andrew Barbosa placed on the 7-day disabled list. He was removed after three innings in his last start after feeling his lat tighten up.
  • May 19th – Catcher Raywilly Gomez activated off the disabled list. He has been the B-Mets yo-yo guy who gets brought back on the active roster when they are short-handed.
  • Phillip Evans has not yet been placed on the disabled list but left the game on Sunday with an apparent leg injury and has not played since. That combined with the promotion of Romero has left manager Pedro Lopez with little infield options, he’s had to use Matt Oberste at third base where he had only three games played coming into the season.

St. Lucie Mets

  • May 16th – Outfielder Patrick Biondi was brought back up from the Brooklyn Cyclones roster, he had been there since April 27th after suffering an injury sliding into second base.
  • May 16th – In the corresponding move, outfielder Raphael Ramirez was sent back down to the Cyclones roster. He went just 2 for 21 with seven strikeouts during his eight games with St. Lucie.

Columbia Fireflies

  • May 19th – Right-handed starter Thomas McIlraith was placed on the 7-day disabled list. He was hit hard in his last outing, giving up six runs in 1.1 innings.
  • May 19th- Catcher Tyler Moore was brought back to the active roster the day after being sent down to Cyclones roster.
  • May 18th – Patrick Mazeika was activated and made his season debut after missing the start of the season with an elbow strain.

We reported on Tuesday that Mets pitching prospect Michael Gibbons had Tommy John Surgery and is out for the season. Here is the full write up on the right-hander that made his minor league debut last year.

Another injury to keep an eye on is the back issue of Gavin Cecchini who has now been on the DL since May 7th. Manager Wally Backman told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he could be back this weekend which would be in time to face his brother Garin Cecchini who plays for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
