Mets Minors Injury Updates: Brandon Nimmo Returns, Zach Lutz Hits DL

The official start of the work week yesterday brought some good news and bad news throughout the New York Mets farm system with regard injury updates. Adam Rubin provided some of these updates via his weekly Farm Report on ESPN New York. Here are how some of the Mets farmhands are doing:

  • Brandon Nimmo, the Mets’ first pick in the 2011 MLB first-year player draft, has finally made his return to the Savannah Sand Gnats lineup. He had been sidelined for just about a month. First, he was held out of the lineup as a precaution of a bruised hand, then suffered a setback with a back problem. Nimmo went 0-for-5 in his first game back, but is still hitting .305/.402/.411 on the season.
  • Steven Matz exited his start against Greenville early last night with an apparent blister on his pitching hand. The Stony Brook, New York native had thrown three innings and allowed two runs on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts before he was pulled from the game.
  • Andrew Brown is currently on the disabled list with an oblique injury. Brown played in six games for the Mets before getting sent back down to Las Vegas, where his .371 batting average currently ranks second in the Pacific Coast League. He was getting looks at first base before his injury, in case of a possible demotion to Ike Davis.
  • Zach Lutz was also rumored to be in that conversation, but exited early on Sunday with an oblique injury as well. He joins Brown on the 7-day disabled list. He’s hitting .277/.360/.419 on the season.
  • Michael Fulmer took a step forward in his rehab from surgery on a torn right meniscus. The right-hander appeared in an extended spring game yesterday, getting through an inning of work. In 21 starts for Savannah a year ago, Fulmer went 7-6 with a 2.74 ERA, 101 strikeouts, and 38 walks in 108.1 innings pitched.
