Adam Rubin released his weekly Farm Report on the ESPN New York Mets blog this morning, highlighting Matt den Dekker and his journey back from a wrist injury in spring training. He also provided injury updates on some of New York’s top prospects.
Wilmer Flores had to exit Saturday’s game with the 51s early due to an ankle injury. While the injury is said to not be serious, Flores will not be participating in tonight’s Triple-A All-Star game, set to take place in Reno. Flores was the only representative from Las Vegas named to the All-Star team, and the 51s won’t be sending a player to take his place. Wilmer has put together a solid campaign at the plate in Triple-A this season, hitting .321/.357/.528 with 12 home runs and 75 RBIs. He’s mostly played second base in 2013, but had been penciled in at first base over the final week of games prior to the All-Star break.
Flores was also named the top-performing batter in Triple-A since June 18th, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.
Travis d’Arnaud hasn’t played in a game since he fractured his foot off a foul ball that hit him while he was catching. We learned earlier this week that d’Arnaud was hitting, throwing, and catching bullpens; basically, he’s doing everything except playing in games. Rubin noted he’s due to meet with doctors on Monday, with the expectation he’ll be cleared to start a rehab assignment. In 36 at-bats prior to his injury, d’Arnaud was hitting .250/.429/.472 with one homer, eight RBIs, and five doubles for the 51s.
Cory Vaughn hasn’t suited up for the B-Mets since June 2nd due to an elbow strain, but is currently on a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League. He’s split his time as the designated hitter, while playing some outfield. He’s hitting .214/.353/.357 in 14 rehab at-bats, and is close to returning to Double-A. Prior to his injury, Vaughn was having a solid season in the Eastern League, hitting .288/.370/.447 with six home runs, 31 RBIs, and 29 runs scored in 170 at-bats.
According to Lynn Worthy of the Press & Sun-Bulletin, Corey Mazzoni has hit the seven-day disabled list in Binghamton. His last start came on July 3rd, against Altoona. It ended with him exiting the game after six innings with a hamstring injury. The right-hander is 5-3 with a 4.29 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 18 walks in 63 innings pitched.
