Under the current plans, the Mets affiliates in Kingsport and Binghamton are among those to lose their affiliation with minor league baseball. This has led to local, state, and now the federal government looking for ways to prevent this plan from being implemented.

There is a bipartisan Congressional effort to help stop Major League Baseball’s plan to eliminate minor league affiliates, and there is a Resolution voicing their support.

Representative Anthony Brindisi, who represents the Binghamton area, joined the Resolution, and said, “Minor league baseball and the communities that support it are part of the fabric of America and its favorite pastime. I joined my colleagues, from both parties, to call on Major League Baseball to work with Minor League Baseball and preserve affordable, family friendly fun.”

In other Mets minor league news, Tim Healey of Newsday reports five Mets minor leaguers “received their high school diplomas this week through their work at the team’s academy in the Dominican Republic.”

The five minor leaguers were Ronny Mauricio, Sebastian Espino, Luis Castillo, Bradly Encarnacion, and Ramon Guzman.

Finally, the Mets have officially signed C Rene Rivera, INF Eduardo Nunez, and RHP Erasmo Ramirez to minor league deals. All three players will be non-roster invites to Spring Training.
