The decision was difficult as there were some viable options to choose as our Player’s of the Week. I actually went back and forth a few times with each edit. The organization continues to see some outstanding contributions from some interesting prospects

Offensive Player of the Week: Dilson Herrera (Las Vegas 51s)

The undersized second baseman continues his offensive onslaught of the PCL hitting five HR while driving in nine for the 51s. He also scored nine runs and hit two doubles for an outstanding 30 TB atop the Vegas lineup for the week.

Honorable Mention: Tomas Nido (STL), Milton Ramos (COL), and Kevin Taylor (STL)

Tomas Nido slugged an outstanding .771 while reaching base at a .500 clip, hitting his first HR of the season in the process.

The diminutive glove first SS, Ramos hit .471 on the week also walked seven times, reaching base all five times to the dish on Sunday’s victory against Asheville, making it a nail biting decision for Player of the Week.

Kevin Taylor with his hitting streak now extended to 14 games, also warrants consideration. He hit an organization leading .476 on the week, and now leads the Florida State League in batting at .378.

Montero

Starting Pitcher of the Week: Rafael Montero (Las Vegas 51s)

After a very rough start to the year Montero has turned it around, not allowing a run in 11.2 innings for the week. He went toe to toe with the consensus top 5 prospect Julio Urias, exiting the game with a game score of 73 to Urias 70. On the week he kept his WHIP to 0.982 while striking out 13.

Honorable Mention: Gabriel Ynoa (51s) & P.J. Conlon (COL)

Two pitchers that have seemingly been in consideration all year. Ynoa went eight innings in his lone start against the Chihuahuas of El Paso. Allowing only one run in route to his fourth victory in an economical 11.5 pitches per inning.

Conlon continued his mastery of the SAL in 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against another highly touted pitching prospect, Anderson Espinoza. Conlon now has a 1.23 ERA on the year with a solid 1.064 WHIP.

Relief Pitcher of the Week: Akeel Morris (Binghamton Mets)

Morris contributed four scoreless innings for the week, striking out five while allowing only one hit. He has not allowed a run since taking the loss on April 21st, allowing just four hits over that span.

Honorable Mention: Paul Sewald (51s) & Tim Peterson (STL)

Sewald continues to close the door for Vegas, collecting his fourth save on the season, while striking out five in 3.2 innings of work.

Tim picked up his first win of the season in St. Lucie’s come from behind victory against the Jupiter Hammerheads. Going multiple innings in each of his outings this week, the 6’1” righty lowered his ERA to 0.55 on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week: Milton Ramos (Columbia Fireflies)

Another repeat winner continues to excel in the field, Ramos has done everything the Fireflies pitching staff needs in the field.

Honorable Mention: T.J. Rivera (51s)

Rivera continues to carry many gloves and provide error free defense around the diamond. The suitable Eric Campbell replacement has played four different positions on the season.
