Las Vegas 4 (23-18), Colorado Springs (Milwaukee) 3 Box Score

Third Baseman T.J. Rivera continues to be hot with another multi-hit night while Seth Lugo bounces back after a short start last time out to give up three runs.  The 51s came back in the seventh inning with three runs to tie Colorado Springs, and then scored an additional run in the ninth. Vegas native right-hander Paul Sewald continues to keep teams scoreless in the hitter’s league.

Lugo pitched until two outs in the sixth and gave up three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. This was a bounce back from the five runs he gave up in three innings on May 15th against Oklahoma, to lower his ERA to 7.45. Lefty Josh Edgin struck out one to end the sixth, and has not given up a run in nine appearances for the 51’s. Righty Chasen Bradford gave up two hits and struck out two over his scoreless five outs. Josh Smoker finished up the eighth, and Sewald saved the game with a scoreless ninth with two hits allowed and a strikeout.

Rivera continues to show that maybe the major league team could use his bat as he collected three more hits, including a double and an RBI, raising his batting average to .375. He now has a league leading 40 RBI on the season. Catcher Nevin Ashley collected three hits of his own including a double, a walk, and strikeout.

Shortstop Niuman Romero continued his hot hitting with a 2 for 5 day, with a walk and two strikeouts. Second baseman Daniel Muno replaced Dilson Herrera in a late scratch and went 1 for 4 with a walk. Right fielder Travis Taijeron went 1 for 4 with an RBI double and two strikeouts. Center fielder Brandon Nimmo hit his third triple in a 1 for 5 day.

Vegas finishes their series on Sunday with lefty Duane Below (2-3, 4.21) on the mound at 3:35 PM.

Akron 5 (Cleveland),  Binghamton 2 (17-23Box Score

Right-handed starter Robert Gsellman returned from the disabled list (groin injury) today to pitch five solid innings in Cleveland. Despite ten hits, the Binghamton team could only get two runs.

Shortstop Derrik Gibson and center fielder Maikis De La Cruz both had a 2 for 4 day with two singles. Designated hitter Victor Cruzado, third baseman Matt Oberste, and catcher Colton Plaia all registered a single as their hit for the day. Right fielder Stefan Sabol went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in both B-Mets runs.

Left fielder Jared King also notched a double for his hit of the day. He continues to struggle in Double-A, hitting .214. Dominic Smith had a rare off night going 0 for 4, dropping his season average down to .278.

Gsellman welcomed himself back with five innings of three run ball, giving up seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Gsellman has been very good in Double-A, registering a 2.54 ERA in eight starts. Right-hander Logan Taylor had an off night, giving up two runs on four hits in three innings, but also struck out four. Currently Taylor has 35 strikeouts in 26.1 innings in Double-A this year and seems to be thriving in relief.

Right-hander Casey Delgado looks to build upon his success from his last outing against the Rubberducks in a 2:05 pm Matinee game.

Daytona 4 (Cincinnati), St. Lucie 3 (21-20) Box Score

St. Lucie dropped their second one-run game in a row to the Tortugas, despite an improved effort by Right-handed starter Chris Flexen, who took the loss. Second baseman Luis Guillorme continues a hot series with two more hits and got on base four times. Shortstop Amed Rosario bounces back to record a multi-hit night.

For the series so far, Guillorme is 5 for 7 with two walks, and is hitting .294 in his last ten games. Rosario collected two hits in a 2 for 5 day, bouncing back from the three-strikeout game the night before. However, he also registered his eighth error of the year, a fielding error.

First baseman Michael Katz registered a hit in three at bats, drove in two and walked twice. Designated hitter Wuilmer Becerra went 1 for 5 with a run batted in. Becerra has been ice cold with a .225 batting average in his last ten games, dropping his season average to .360. Catcher Tomas Nido also collected a hit in a 1 for 4 night and had a throwing error.

Flexen had a solid start, finishing two outs in the seventh inning giving up three runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out two. Lefty Ben Griset came on and pitched an inning, gave up an unearned run on a hit and struck out one. Righty Robert Coles gave up a hit and registered an out, ending the eighth inning.

Right-handed starter Corey Oswalt gets the ball tomorrow, in hopes to avoid the sweep on Sunday with a 5:35 PM Start time.
