Las Vegas (5-4) 3, Fresno 0

It was a relatively quiet day offensively for the 51s in the friendly confines of Chukchansi Park but they didn’t need to do much with Sean Gilmartin pitching the game of his life. He pitched seven solid innings, allowing no runs, three hits and had eight strikeouts. Chasen Bradford finished up the last two innings giving up no runs with two strikeouts, getting his first save of the season. It was quite a day overall for the 51’s pitching staff.

On the offensive side, Matt Reynolds led the way, going 2-4 with two triples and a RBI. Travis Taijeron added two RBI singles. Gavin Cecchini continued his rocky start to Triple-A with an 0 for 4 performance, lowering his batting average to .200. Box Score

Binghamton (5-3) 4, Erie 0

The B-Mets pitching staff also had a great day on the mound with four different pitchers combining for a five hit shutout. Logan Taylor got the start, pitching four scoreless innings to go along with three strikeouts. He made a strong case to be a permanent part of the rotation with Tyler Pill being ineffective in his first two starts. Mike Hepple, who ended up getting the win, pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two batters. Beck Wheeler followed Hepple, tossing two scoreless innings as well, with two strikeouts. Akeel Morris closed it out with a scoreless frame.

Niuman Romero had a big day at the plate going 3 for 5 with a double, and one RBI. Derrik Gibson went 3 for 4 with an RBI double and looked good defensively at shortstop. Matt Oberste added an RBI double while going 1 for 4. Oberste has had a nice start at AA, batting .292 so far. Dominic Smith had a rough day going 0 for 5 with a strikeout and is now batting .194 in his first exposure to AA.

Romero is tied for the league lead with five doubles while the B-Mets as a team have the most doubles in the Eastern League with 27.  Box Score

Brevard County 13, St. Lucie (7-4) 0

This was a very ugly day overall for the Mets. Scarlyn Reyes got shelled, giving up 10 runs (six earned) and six hits across two and a third innings. Ben Griset came in to try and stop the bleeding, gave up one run in two and two thirds innings, while striking out three batters.

It was just as ugly on the offensive side of things with the Mets only getting two hits on the day. Only good news was that Wuilmer Becerra returned to the lineup as a DH after having missed the last few games with an injury. During the radio broadcast it was revealed that he was dealing with a sore shoulder. He went 1 for 2 with a single with Champ Stuart also adding a single.

There was nothing else to show on the day for the Mets. Amed Rosario struck out twice but did receive his first walk of the season. Box Score

Greenville 11, Columbia (5-6) 5

The Fireflies pitching was no match for the Drive’s offensive prowess on Sunday afternoon, losing 11-5. Mitch Gunsolus launched home runs off of Tyler Badamo (L, 1-1) in the first and third innings. It was a rough day for Badamo who allowed six runs on 11 hits in five innings. The Drive were able to add one more run in each of those frames to go up 4-0.  Columbia was able to answer in the bottom of the third inning.

Switch hitter J.C. Rodriguez (batting from the left side) hit a solo home run over the right-field wall to get the Fireflies on the board.

In the top of the fourth inning, Greenville (7-4) added to their lead with two more runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Ivan Wilson hit a rocket single and moved into scoring position when Natanael Ramos singled. Milton Ramos then drove in Wilson with a single to cut the deficit to four.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, David Thompson doubled down the left-field line off of Austin Glorius with one out, and later came around to score due to Joe Tuschak’s RBI single. Thompson is the only player in the South Atlantic League to hit safely in all 11 games this year and is second in the league with his 11 RBI. Box Score
