BINGHAMTON 5, HARRISBURG 2
The Mets would score three runs in the second inning thanks to a 3-run jack by Dustin Lawley, and would hang on to beat the Harrisburg Senators 5-2. Rainy Lara picked up his third win of the season thanks to a strong showing on Saturday. Lara went 6.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits, but struck out seven. The seven strikeouts is the highest total so far this season for Lara. Binghamton’s bullpen did what bullpens are designed to do, and that is to come in and slam the door in the face of the opponent. Pedro Lopez’s crew did just that for him securing the win for the Mets. John Church would record his third hold of the season while Jack Leathersich would get his first save. Lawley, who’s 3-run home runs was the only offense needed for Binghamton, finished the afternoon going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run, and a double. Both teams are back at it in the series finale on Sunday. No starter has been announced. (box score)
ST. LUCIE 2, PALM BEACH 0
The St. Lucie Mets still had a little bit left in their tank after pounding on Palm Beach Friday, as they won their second straight against the Cardinals 2-0. Matt Koch dazzled on Saturday giving the Mets 6.2 solid, giving up just three hits and striking out a pair. With the win, Koch improves to 4-0, and has two starts in a row where he hasn’t given up a run. Dilson Herrera and Phillip Evans each went 2-for-4 with an RBI each. Herrera is now inching towards the .300 mark, while Evans sits comfortably at .303. Herrera also recorded his team-leading 7th stolen base. St. Lucie is getting it done on the mound and on the bases. St. Lucie is now 21-15 and is in first place in the FSL South by a game over Fort Myers. The Mets next game is scheduled for Monday when they return home to Tradition Field to take on the Tampa Yankees. Gabriel Ynoa is slated to pitch for St. Lucie. (box score)
SAVANNAH 1, CHARLESTON 0
John Gant picked up his fourth win and Robert Coles recorded his seventh save for the Savannah SandGnats as they shut down Charleston 1-0. Gant had some issues with control walking four batters, but all-in-all not a terrible outing. Coles who has still yet to give up a run this season, gave up a hit and struck out one to close the game out. Stefan Sabol’s sac-fly RBI with bases loaded in the sixth would be the only run Savannah would score. Charleston’s starter Caleb Smith started out the inning walking three straight before being lifted. Smith walked six total in five innings. Savannah won their fifth game in a row and will look to make it six on Sunday, as these two teams clash for the second game of the four game set. Chris Flexen will start for the SandGnats and will look for his second win of the season. (box score)
