According to a source, Mets pitching prospect Mike Gibbons underwent Tommy John Surgery today in New York. The news was discovered first by our own writer NYMets945.

Gibbons, 23, played his first season of pro ball in 2015 after going undrafted out of Wheaton College in Massachusetts.

Remarkably he made a start with four different Mets affiliates in his first season with the team including the St. Lucie Mets where he made his debut and finished the season. In between he made six starts for the the Savannah Sand Gnats, three with the Brooklyn Cyclones and one with the Binghamton Mets.

Overall, in 2015 he went 4-5 with 3.63 ERA in 12 starts that spanned 69.1 innings. In that time he pitched three complete games and had a 1.34 WHIP while striking out 47 compared to 18 walks.

He came into the 2016 season ranked as the Mets number 30 prospect according to Baseball America but never threw a pitch this year.
