The New York Mets have recalled Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas, and a corresponding roster move will be made Friday.

After a costly Wilmer Flores error on Thursday night, as well as Daniel Murphy’s poor play, the Mets decided to turn to Herrera, who can hopefully add some spark to the offense while stabilizing the middle infield at second base.

The front office confirmed that Daniel Murphy will be sliding all the way over to third base and Herrera will play every day at second base, relegating Eric Campbell to the bench which he’s best suited for.

Whether you agree with this move or not, credit the front office for their boldness and quick reaction to Thursday night’s debacle.

Herrera was raking in Las Vegas as his .375 average and .919 OPS would attest. And just yesterday Wally BackmanHerrera called Herrera a future All Star second baseman.

The question is what happens when David Wright returns from the disabled list in about eight days? Obviously Herrera is not going to sit so it’s either back to the minors or is something else in the works? Perhaps a trade?

If Herrera goes back to Las Vegas then it’s back to Murphy and Flores up the middle and that brings us back to where we started from.

It’s obvious that Thursday night’s turn of events defensively is what precipitated the promotion of Herrera as perhaps the Mets patience is growing thin.

But the move for now appears only to be a stopgap measure and the next few days definitely bear monitoring.
