Mets Prospect Brian Harrison Retires From Baseball

Adam Rubin tweeted on Thursday that Mets infield prospect Brian Harrison retired from the game.  This is the second Mets minor league player to decide it was time to hang up his cleats in the last two weeks.

Brian  Harrison2Harrison was signed by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2010 June Amateur draft from Furman University in South Carolina. 

He played three years at Furman University and in 121 combined games, he batted .313, with 24 home runs and 81 RBI’s.

After the draft, he played the 2010 season with the Gulf Coast Mets (Rookie), Brooklyn (A-), and Savannah (A) and a combined 48 games he batted .284/.346/.538, with 15 doubles, eight home runs, and 25 RBI in 169 at bats.

In 2011 he returned to Brooklyn and in 62 games he batted, .237/.332/.311 with seven doubles, three home runs, 30 RBI in 219 at bats. The next season the Mets promoted him to Savannah and in  113 games he batted .241/.313/.345, with 27 doubles, five home runs, 61 RBI in 423 at bats.

In 2013 he was rewarded with a promotion to St. Lucie (A+) and played in nine games before being put on the DL with plantar fascia. Upon his return he played with Gulf Coast Mets and finished the season with Savannah and in 39 combined games he batted .163/.252/.222 with five doubles, a home run, and 15 RBI in 135 at bats.
