According to Jacob Resnick of MetsMinors.net, the New York Mets have released their sixth-round draft pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, outfielder Jayce Boyd.

Boyd, 27, spent six seasons in the Mets’ organization, making his way to Triple-A Las Vegas for 56 games in 2015 and again for 92 games in 2017.

Over his time in MiLB, Boyd went from being a first-baseman by trade to being used exclusively as an outfielder by his age-24 season with Binghamton.

At the plate, Boyd slashed .290/.367/.418 with 36 home runs and 261 runs batted in 1,887 minor-league at-bats. He received the Mets Sterling Award for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2013.

Boyd had surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome following the 2013 season and his throwing was hindered afterwards.

When Triple-A Las Vegas’ roster was announced and Jayce Boyd was passed over in favor of newcomer Bryce BrentzPatrick Biondi and part-time major-leaguer Matt den Dekker, it became clear that Boyd’s time with the franchise would be coming to an end.

Still young enough and most certainly talented enough to land on his feet somewhere, hopefully, Boyd will latch on with a club in hopes of continuing his path towards the major leagues.
