The New York Mets have signed catcher Matt Foley to a minor league deal and assigned him to the GCL Mets. They have also signed right-handed pitcher Matt Pobereyko and assigned him to the Columbia Fireflies.

Foley, 23, was originally drafted in the 40th round by the Miami Marlins in 2015. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves in 2016 for former Met Jeff Francoeur. He is a career .213/.319/.213 hitter in 13 minor league games. The right-handed hitter from Seekonk, Massachusetts hasn’t played yet this season.

Pobereyko, 25, was pitching for the Florence Freedom in the Frontier League when the Mets signed him. In 18 innings, he had 38 strikeouts compared to only five walks, 1.00 ERA and 10 saves.

In 27 minor league innings, Pobereyko has a 4.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
