The New York Mets organization added more talent to the mound Friday afternoon, as they signed left-handed pitcher Cam Opp to a minor league deal, per Rob Piersall of MetsMerized. This will be Opp’s first stop in any MLB team’s minor league system.

The London, England native previously played with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League in 2019, where he recorded a 4-2 record and a 2.70 ERA. Opp also struck out 35 batters through 26.2 innings pitched with the Otters while allowing 22 hits.

Opp also played college ball with Army West Point, where he finished his senior year with a 5-1 record and a 3.65 ERA in 2019. The lefty’s most statistically impressive season came the year before, when he grabbed second-team All-Patriot League honors as he recorded a team-low 2.66 ERA, allowing opponents just a .213 batting average against him.

The Mets’ newest prospect has even shown up in big moments as well, capturing a save against rival Navy in 2018 and a win in 2019 against the Midshipmen to help clinch back-to-back Patriot League titles for the Black Knights.

The 25-year-old has moved around quite a bit for baseball, traveling from Great Britain to the United States as he played high school ball with Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, pitching to a 19-1 career record. Opp also attended a pair of summer baseball camps at the Detroit Tigers’ spring training facility in Lakeland, Florida.
