The New York Mets have signed veteran utility player Mike Brosseau to a minor league deal. The 30-year-old was just 3-for-28 in Triple-A for the Royals before he became a free agent again.

Brosseau played in 29 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, with four home runs and a .654 OPS. The former Ray also pitched in three games, allowing one run over 2 1/3 innings. The right-handed hitter had a much better season in 2022 when he hit .255/.344/.418, 115 OPS+, with five doubles and six home runs in 69 games. He also tossed three scoreless innings.

Brosseau has played second base, first base, third base, shortstop, left field, right field and pitcher. Brosseau is a career 104 OPS+ hitter and has a 2.79 ERA over 10 appearances. He fares better against lefty pitching, with a .790 OPS against southpaws and a .667 OPS against righties.

Mets’ current utility player, Joey Wendle, has struggled mightily to begin his career in Queens. He’s hitting only .250/.282/.292 in 25 plate appearances and made a costly defensive mistake when he didn’t throw home on Monday in the Mets’ 3-1 loss.
