Update:

Yesterday the Estrellas de Oriente announced that Pimentel has bicep tendonitis in his throwing arm and will likely miss the rest of the Dominican Winter League. He left his last outing on November 16th with pain in his pitching arm and had a MRI.

The Mets have signed right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel who pitched 11.1 innings out of the Texas Rangers bullpen last year with a 3.97 ERA and 1.235 WHIP. It is a minor league deal with an invitation for Major League camp. The 25-year old also pitched in 17 games (12 starts) for AAA Round Rock in 2015 going 5-3 with a 5.40 ERA.

Pimentel was signed by the Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic in 2006 for $25,000. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012 as part of the six-player deal that involved Mark Melancon and Brock Holt. Baseball America had him listed as the Red Sox #9 prospect in 2010 and said he had the best changeup in the Boston farm system. BA also named his changeup the best in the Red Sox system in 2008.

He is currently pitching for the Estrellas de Oriente in the Dominican Winter League and a 3.18 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 5.2 innings.

Stolmy was listed in the Baseball America Top 30 prospects list for seven straight seasons from being #11 in Red Sox system after 2008 to #27 in the Pirates system after the 2014 season.
