The New York Mets have signed right-handed starter Blake Beavan to a minor league deal. He’s expected to report to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s.
This season he was 1-0 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in six starts over 39.2 innings pitching for Pericos de Puebla of the Mexican League.
The 28-year old former first round pick of the Texas Rangers in 2007 hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2014.
In 293 big league innings, the 6’7” sinkerballer has a 4.61 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 54 appearances with 44 of them being starts.
Pretty much for AAA rotation depth since Montero is going to get an extended look in the rotation while Lugo, Matz and Thor are on the mend. I wonder if Big Sexy pitches bad enough and gets released by Braves would Mets take a flyer on him?

Wilks I’m giving a slight pass because he wasn’t given that long of a notice to start against a good Marlins lineup. Pill I think earned himself at least one spot start assuming Mets are done with Montero who I think just needs to be out of Mets organization. Millone seems like a decent pick up for now. This Harvey thing is getting toxic now to the point where Mets may start entertaining offers for him mid season which is bad bc his value is pretty low now.

Right. If he’s traded he wont be the centerpiece, he’ll be a throw in. Likely he gets DFA’d and gets picked up in waivers due to his age and stuff. heck Aaron Hicks was picked up for nothing and now he’s hitting pretty well for the Yankees. I wont be surprised if Montero becomes a useful piece for another team bc that’s a very Mets thing to happen. And I was in the majority to not re-sign Big sexy because of all the depth, holy crap was I wrong.
