Michael Mayer of Metsmerized reported on Monday that the New York Mets have signed side-arm right-handed pitcher Tom Hackimer to a minor league deal.

Hackimer was a former 15th round draft pick by the Mets (2015, unsigned). He went to Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, NY and went to St. John’s University.

After not signing with the Mets in 2015, Hackimer was then drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2016 in the fourth round with the No. 123 overall pick out of St. John’s. He had pitched his way through the Triple-A level before being released by the St. Paul Saints on June 8.

Hackimer spent time between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul in 2021. Combined between the two clubs, he is 2-0 with a 6.57 ERA through 10 games and 12 1/3 innings pitched. He has 18 strikeouts this season.

Through his minor league career he has a 3.03 ERA and 10.5 K/9 innings.

Hackimer didn’t start pitching until his freshmen season in college when St. John’s coach Ed Blankmeyer thought he could be a successful sidearm pitcher. Until that point, Hackimer played mostly shortstop.
