The Mets lose out to the Mariners for Fernando Rodney‘s services.  Adam Rubin shared on Twitter that Rodney signed a two-year $14 million dollar deal Thursday to become the Mariners closer.

Rodney, 36, who the Mets showed interest in, saved 37 games for the Rays in 2013 with a 3.38 ERA, and 82 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings.

Rubin writes that the Mets are still in the market for a late-inning reliever and the remaining free agents include Kevin Gregg, Ryan Madson and Joel Hanrahan. In 2013, Gregg pitched for the Cubs and was 2-6, 3.48 ERA, with 33 saves, and 56 strike outs in 62 innings, Madson pitched for the Phillies and was 4-2, 2.37 ERA, with 32 saves, and 62 strike outs in 60.2 innings and Hanrahan will not be ready until May when he returns from Tommy John surgery.

Out of the three remaining relievers, the Mets would surely upgrade their bullpen with either arm.
