ph_448614I can admit when I’m wrong. I truly thought there wouldn’t see Carlos Torres in a New York Mets uniform before another major league team scooped him up, allowing him to opt out of his contract with Amazins.

Torres has thrown two straight complete games for the Las Vegas 51s, and is now 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 19 walks in 71.2 innings pitched. His recent hot streak earned the 30-year-old right-hander a promotion to the majors. He wasn’t on the 40-man roster, so in a corresponding move, New York designated Collin McHugh for assignment.

In nine starts with Las Vegas, McHugh is 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA, and earned a call to the big leagues earlier this year. His cup of coffee with the Mets wasn’t pleasant; he put together an 0-1 record and 10.29 ERA in seven innings pitched.

Congratulations to Torres on his promotion! The Mets roster shakeup continues, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be. Their 5-2 loss today against the Cubs brings them to 15 games below .500 on the season (24-39).
