The Salt River Rafters lost last night after they scored four runs in the 9th inning to send the game into extra innings. The Surprise Saguaros scored one in the 10th to pick up the win and drop the Rafters to 14-12 on the season.

Mets minor league knuckleballer Mickey Jannis made his sixth Arizona Fall League start with this one being on MLB Network and MLB.tv. Jannis gave up one unearned run in the first inning before settling down for the next three. After a bunt single, sacrifice bunt, and two throwing errors Jannis threw his only mistake of the night in the 5th inning. St. Louis Cardinals prospects Aledmys Diaz deposited a hanging knuckleball over the fence for a three-run shot.

Mickeys’ final line was 5 innings, six hits, three earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. The line looks worse than it should have been when you factor in the three errors made behind him and that three of the hits didn’t leave the infield. He now has a 2.48 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 29 innings this fall.

Jannis was sitting in the 76-78 MPH range with his knuckleball, that was getting good movement most of the night. That is normally where he is with his knuckler, he did throw one at 70 MPH and one at 80 MPH. He rarely throws his fastball with me counting only three during the outing with the fastest one topping out at 89 MPH.

L.J. Mazzilli and Jeff McNeil didn’t start in the game but both got in as pinch runners with McNeil scoring a run.

Here is a video of a nasty pitch by Jannis last night.
