Top Performers / Top Prospects

• Brandon Nimmo, CF: After struggling for much of last season in Savannah, Nimmo has turned it around in a big way for St. Lucie, having one of the best seasons of anyone in the farm system. In 279 plate appearances, Nimmo is hitting .322/.448/.458 with four home runs (twice as many as last year) and nine stolen bases. Nimmo, along with four of his teammates, have earned themselves promotions to Double-A Binghamton.
• Steven Matz, LHP: Matz will be the next hyped-up pitcher to come through the Mets system, and for good reason. The former second round pick continues to dominate, posting a 62/21 strikeout to walk ratio in 69.1 innings. Although he isn’t striking out ten batters per nine innings like he was last season and the season before, Matz is still giving followers of the Mets minor league system reason to be excited. On the year, he has a 2.21 ERA, seventh in the FSL. His strikeout total is also fourth in the league.
• Randy Fontanez, RHP: The former 27th-rounder is finally coming into his own in a closer role for St. Lucie. Fontanez has recorded 10 saves and posted a 2.56 ERA in 31.2 innings this season.
• Michael Fulmer, RHP: In his second go-around with St. Lucie, Fulmer has seen mixed results. The former second round pick has a 4.82 ERA in 56 innings this season, and has given up 11.7 hits per nine innings. There have been some positives, however, as Fulmer has gotten his walks down from 4.8 per nine last year with St. Lucie to 2.9 this season.
• Dilson Herrera, 2B/SS: Herrera has continued to show surprising power for a 20 year-old middle infield prospect. After hitting 11 home runs and slugging .416 last season, Herrera is again slugging .410 and although he has only hit three home runs thus far, he also has 16 doubles and two triples. In total, he is batting .307/.355/.410 all while stealing 14 bases.
• T.J. Rivera, 1B/2B/3B: Rivera, 25, has continued to rake in St. Lucie, hitting .341/.383/.452 with four homers and 16 doubles. However, this is Rivera’s third try in the Floride State League, and he is now more than two years older than league average. The Mets don’t seem to be too high on Rivera as they have declined to promote him until this week, despite hitting well in St. Lucie in both 2012 and 2013.
• Cam Maron, C: After a sub-par season in St. Lucie last year, Maron has returned to his old ways, hitting near .300 and walking frequently. On the season, he is hitting .291/.390/.402 with three home runs, eight doubles, and two triples. That isn’t much power, but when you are getting on base at a clip of .390, you almost don’t need it. Maron is looking like the ideal number two hitter.
• Aderlin Rodriguez, OF: Rodriguez made a name for himself after slugging 16 home runs in 83 games for Savannah a few years ago. However, after being promoted to St. Lucie late that season, he stalled, and has remained in St. Lucie. Rodriguez still has some power, hitting six home runs and slugging .412, but his batting line is otherwise empty with a .235 average and .284 OBP.

• St. Lucie fell just one game shy of the first half Floride State League title, but are in good position to make the playoffs in the second half.
• St. Lucie leads the Floride State League in runs per game, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, and total bases.

Outlook / Promotions

•  The St. Lucie Mets have lost Brandon Nimmo, Dilson Herrera, Randy Fontanez, Steven Matz, and T.J. Rivera to Binghamton. However, they add Gavin Cecchini, T.J. Chism, Robert Coles, L.J. Mazzilli, Jeff McNeil, Tim Peterson, and Kevin McGowan.
