Las Vegas 4, Salt Lake 1

Behind a strong performance by starting pitcher D.J. Mitchell, the Las Vegas 51s cooled off a hot opponent Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees.

The Bees came to Cashman Field on a six-game winning streak and with eight victories in their past 10 games, but Mitchell held them scoreless through five innings while striking out eight and giving up only four hits. The quartet of Jack Leathersich, Justin Hampson, Gonzalez Germen, and Robert Carson finished the game for him. Leathersich allowed an inherited runner from Germen to score in the eighth, but picked up a strikeout to end the threat.

The 51s built a two-run cushion in the second inning, as third baseman Rylan Sandoval keyed a two-run inning with a first-pitch double to left. Three innings later, right fielder Mike Baxter made it 3-0 with a solo homer. Sandoval struck again in the eighth with an RBI double. Francisco Pena and Brandon Hicks each had RBI hits in this game as well.

Jacob deGrom is projected to make the start tomorrow — his second in AAA.
