As we inch nearer to the 2017 MLB Draft baseball media outlets continue to tweak their mock drafts to reflect the landscape surrounding the best amateurs available.

On Friday,  MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo did just that after Nate Pearson a sophomore from Central Florida Junior College a had an electric bullpen session at the Florida State High School All-Star game.

Pearson, who was on hand to showcase his stuff for the scouts on hand, consistently hit 100 MPH on the gun and reaching as high as 102 MPH. The session has made waves throughout the scouting community, prompting Mayo to move Pearson up significantly in his latest mock draft, right up to the Mets’ No. 20 pick.

Pearson, who is listed at 6’6” and 225 lbs, had a 1.56 ERA last season with 118 strikeouts in 81 innings. His fastball was hovering around 90-92 MPH a year an a half ago as a high school senior and has only lately begun hitting triple digits on the gun this season.

Pearson’s bullpen session is eye popping for two reasons. The first being his age. Pearson, 20, played at Florida International University before transferring to Central Florida JC. There are usually only one or two players in the country that can throw that hard coming into the draft in a given year, and they are usually two years older than Person is now.

The second is the fact that Pearson is a starter who consistently hits 100 MPH on the gun over the course of five and six inning outings whereas most collegiate members of the triple digit club are one inning relievers. This combination shows that with the right coaching and molding the sky could be the limit for for the young right-hander.

Pearson is a definitely a raw talent who needs to work on his off speed and breaking stuff if he is going to make it in the big leagues. With such a live arm at such a young age, he could be a can’t miss pick for the Mets, who have had a knack for developing big arms in recent years.
