Travis-dArnaudYet another mid-season top prospect list has been updated. This time, it’s MLB Pipeline doing the ranking, and there is still plenty of love for the New York Mets within the top-25.

While he’s currently accruing time in the major leagues, Zack Wheeler is included in the top-10, checking in at number eight (the same spot he was at before 2013 started). In seven big league starts, the Georgia native is 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 31 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 38.2 innings pitched. He’s still learning with each start, but I think he’s moving in the right direction every time we see him take the mound.

Wheeler was also ranked as the third-best right-handed pitching prospect, and still takes the top spot in the Mets organization.

Noah Syndergaard comes in as the 14th-best prospect in all of baseball, and his solid season between St. Lucie and Binghamton has risen his stock even more. The big right-hander made the FSL All-Star team before being promoted to Double-A, where he’s 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 38 strikeouts, and eight walks in 30 innings pitched.

Like Wheeler, Syndergaard is one of the top-10 right-handed pitching prospects, coming in at number five. On the Mets’ depth chart, he’s ranked second behind his fellow young hurler.

Travis d’Arnaud‘s development has once again been halted because of injury, but MLB Pipeline still has him ranked as the 23rd best prospect in baseball. He was finally cleared to begin a rehab assignment this week, which he has started with the GCL Mets. He’s played in three games so far, and is hitting .300/.364/.400 in 10 at-bats.

Despite the injuries, d’Arnaud is still considered the best catching prospect in baseball, and third-best in the Mets’ system.

After displaying their top-100 prospects at the midway point, MLB Pipeline also broke it down by position. That’s where Wilmer Flores makes an appearance, checking in as the eighth-best second base prospect. He’s been tearing up PCL pitchers most of the season, putting together a .319/.353/.520 line with 12 homers, 33 doubles, and 78 RBIs. His lack of position was mentioned, with the write-up mentioning third base may have been the best spot for him due to his lack of quickness, but that position is taken up for the rest of the decade thanks to David Wright.

Finally, each team’s top prospects were ranked and updated. Here is what MLB Pipeline has put together as New York’s top-20 prospects at this time:

1. Zack Wheeler

2. Noah Syndergaard

3. Travis d’Arnaud

4. Rafael Montero

If you want to compare notes to how MMN ranked our top-25, you can take a look here. We left out players like Familia and Wheeler because they’ve had enough time in the big leagues, but there are quite a few similarities here.

Now it’s time to watch how these prospects perform the rest of the season. Then, we get to rank them all over again!
