Las Vegas 6 (7-10), Albuquerque 5 F/10 Box Score

Johnny Monell began the night on the bench but came up with the big hit for the 51s with a solo walk-off homer in the 10th inning that snapped their four-game losing streak. Initially, he hit for Rene Rivera in the 3rd inning who could be ready to be added to the Mets roster as they wait to hear on the extent of Travis d’Arnaud‘s injury.

Another player who start the night of the bench, Brandon Nimmo, played a key role on the offense going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Roger Bernadina got ejected along with Wally Backman in the 3rd inning by the first base umpire. Dilson Herrera had a good night out of the leadoff spot going 2 for 5 with a run scored, stolen base and his sixth double of the year.

Travis Taijeron went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and threw out a runner at home. Over his last three games he has gone 5 for 10 with a homer, two walks, three RBI and four runs scored. Starting in left field for the 51s was infielder T.J. Rivera for the first time in his career during a regular season game. He did make an appearance there this spring for the Mets and last night he caught both fly balls hit to him. He went 2 for 5 with a double, RBI and run scored at the dish. Overall, T.J. is hitting .333/.367/.467 with a team leading 11 RBI.

Matt Reynolds played third base, I named him in the players of the week for his defense there, going 1 for 4 with a double and a run batted in. The early season struggles for Gavin Cecchini in a 0 for 4 night that dropped his season average to to .182

Veteran lefty Duane Below made his second start of the year allowing four runs in six innings on nine hits and struck out six. Chasen Bradford tossed a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout lowering his ERA to 0.79 in 11.1 innings.

Paul Sewald pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season for Las Vegas. Quick turnaround for 51s who play the Isotopes today at 1:35 PM ET with Gabriel Ynoa on the mound.

Binghamton 6 (7-9), Portland 4 Box Score

Binghamton kept the bats going, scoring six for the second game in a row with some hot hitting by Niuman Romero, Dominic Smith, Kyle Johnson, and Matt Oberste as Robert Gsellman pitched a quality start. They still struggled to take advantage of scoring opportunities however, going 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position.

Gsellman had a solid day, going six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four. This was easily his worst start of the season (of four so far) as he gave up a season-high three runs, and a season-high eight baserunners. He did hit 94 on the gun multiple times and showed off his slider a few times including one for a swinging strikeout with the bases loaded in the 5th.

Logan Taylor followed with two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out three. He has been consistently in the 93/94 MPH range but did hit 96 once last night according to Tim Heiman, the voice of the B-Mets. Beck Wheeler closed the game with an inning pitched, and a home run given up to Jordan Betts, while striking out one.

Smith led the offense going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, as well as a walk. In two out of three situations in this game with runners in scoring position, Dominic was able to get a run home with an RBI groundout in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the eighth inning. During his current five game hitting streak he has gone 9 for 21 with six RBI, over his last ten games he is hitting .300.

Left fielder Victor Cruzado drove in himself and Matt Oberste on his second home run in two days. He also struck out twice and walked once. Others who collected multi-hit games include  Johnson (2 for 3, 2 BB, 2 R, RBI), Romero (2 for 4, BB) and Oberste (2-5, R). Right fielder Jared King collected a double for his only hit of the day.

The B-Mets have won two straight games after dropping six straight last week. They take on the Sea Dogs again tonight with lefty Andrew Barbosa on the mound making his second B-Mets start.

Both the St. Lucie Mets and the Columbia Fireflies were off last night, they will be back in action tonight with the Mets playing at Charlotte and the Fireflies hosting Lexington.
