Adam Rubin of ESPN New York released his weekly Farm Report earlier today. As always, there was plenty of interesting information regarding Mets minor leaguers. While the article focused mostly on 2012 Mets’ first round pick, Gavin Cecchini, Rubin provided important injury updates regarding some well-known prospects:

  • Darin Gorski successfully returned from a shoulder injury last Wednesday in Double-A, and will be taking the hill tonight in Game 2 of a doubleheader for the B-Mets.
  • Cesar Puello is currently listed as day-to-day with a finger injury. He suffered it last week against Trenton as he was sliding into second base. The outfielder is currently hitting .330/.403/.604 with 13 homers and 46 RBIs in 197 at-bats with Binghamton. That includes a .515 average in 33 June at-bats. That’s not a typo.
  • Cory Vaughn hasn’t played since June 2nd and has been on the disabled list with an elbow injury. We recently found out the other successful B-Mets outfielder won’t need surgery as a part of his rehabilitation process, and is currently in Port St. Lucie trying to work himself back into the lineup. Vaughn has put together a .288/.370/.447 line for Binghamton with six home runs and 31 RBIs prior to being put on the shelf.
  • Matt den Dekker made his return to the field in a rehab start with Advanced-A St. Lucie on Monday as their designated hitter. In two games played, the outfielder is 1-for-8 with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Dylan Owen has a torn meniscus in his right knee that will require surgery. Drafted in the 20th round in the 2007 MLB draft, Owen appeared in games for both Binghamton and Las Vegas this season. In 20 combined innings (17 games), the righty compiled an 0-3 record and 7.65 ERA, while allowing 27 hits and 13 walks, along with 12 strikeouts.
  • Luis Mateo has been sidelined most of this year and only made four appearances (11.2 innings pitched) between Binghamton and St. Lucie, and now he’ll miss the rest of the season. According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, Mateo underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.

As more injury updates surface, we’ll be sure to keep you all in the loop!
