cessa-deliveryPut your hands together for Luis Cessa, who is this week’s MMN Pitcher of the Week! Cessa enjoyed the best week out of the Mets pitching corps down in Savannah where he made two effective starts.

On June 9th, Cessa pitched to a no-decision against the Rome Braves, where he went six shutout innings. He allowed seven hits, no walks, and struck out six. He followed that up with another quality start on Saturday, where he lasted seven innings. He allowed six hits and a walk, leading to two runs, and struck out eight batters. Overall, he was relatively sharp on the week.

The 21-year old right hander is in the midst of a streaky season, in which he allowed just two earned runs over his first three starts, but 18 over his next four. In his most recent four starts, however, Cessa has returned to his dominant form and allowed just three earned runs, including his two impressive starts last week. He is often overlooked because of the talented Matthew Bowman and Gabriel Ynoa on the same staff as him, but Cessa merits a lot of respect on his own. He was overshadowed in Brooklyn last year, but dominated with a 2.49 ERA.

His fastball, which sits in the mid 90’s, and his youth give scouts hope that the future is bright for Luis Cessa. So congrats on a great week, Luis!
