Flores 7

Fresh off winning our player of the Week for the outstanding at bats he had from April 28 – May 4, Wilmer Flores is at it again. In Tuesday nights Las Vegas win, Flores hit his fifth home run on the season and added a double to finish 2 for 4, with four RBI’s.

In his last 10 games, Flores is now batting .433/.469/.900, (13 for 30), with nine runs scored, two doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI’s, and two walks. He has hit safely in eight out of the ten games and three were multi-hit.

With the Mets in desperate need of a hot hitting shortstop, they have instead stayed with the idea of using light hitters Ruben Tejada (.188/.309/.213 in 78 at bats) and Omar Quintanilla (.207/.258/.214 in 29 at bats) in the everyday lineup, rather than promoting the hot hitting Flores and giving him a real chance to win the position outright.

Flores might not be the ideal replacement for the Mets shortstop woes, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a hot bat in the lineup that is capable of hitting home runs and driving in runs, at least until they have a more permanent fix for the position. Who knows, Flores might be the guy the Mets have been looking for all along.
