Fresno 4, Las Vegas 3 (5-5)

Vegas fell short of a comeback in a day game, failing to score the tying run after scoring two in the eighth inning. The big club’s RISP woes were contagious as both Dilson Herrera and Brandon Nimmo singled to start the game, but nothing could come across as Matt Reynolds and Johnny Monell both struck out looking. Travis Taijeron then walked, but Roger Bernadina couldn’t drive in any with the bases loaded.

Fresno struck first in the first inning on a two-run shot by former Mets draft pick and now top Astro prospect A.J. Reed. Vegas came back with a run of their own in the second inning as Herrera drove in Gavin Cecchini with a single. Fresno scored in the following inning on a Danny Worth double that scored Tony Kemp. They scored again in the seventh on a sac fly by Reed, scoring Aplin.

Vegas rallied with two runs in the eighth as Bernadina singled in Nimmo and Reynolds, however, Taijeron was thrown out at home on a Cecchini fielder’s choice.

Dilson Herrera in the leadoff spot went 2 for 5 with an RBI and is now batting .258. Nimmo in the 2nd spot had 2 walks and a hit in 5 plate appearances. Cecchini went 1 for 4 with a run and is batting .206 on the young year.

On the pitching side, Stolmy Pimentel pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4. Chase Huchingson couldn’t keep the game within 2 runs for his inning, giving up a run on a walk, while recording a strikeout. Box Score

Akron 4, Binghamton 1 (5-4)

Dominic Smith homered, but Binghamton couldn’t muster more than four hits. Rainy Lara started the game and went 6.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out four. Luis Mateo came on for relief and went 1.2 innings, giving up a run on a hit, with a strikeout.

Akron scored their first run after Cleveland top prospect Bradley Zimmer doubled in Lonnie Chisenhall in the first inning. Then in the seventh inning, Dominic Smith hit his first home run to right field on a low ball for a no-doubt home run. However, Akron answered back with three more runs, as a wild pitch scored Yandy Diaz, who was Lara’s responsibility, followed by a triple, and then a sac fly making the game out of reach.

LJ Mazzilli went 0 for 4 with a strikeout in the leadoff spot, while hitting .212. Dominic Smith was the main star of an abysmal offensive showing, going 1 for 3 with the home run, here you can watch the blast.  It was his first home run since August 27th of last year. Box Score

St. Lucie 9 (8-3), Brevard County 4

St. Lucie got revenge for Brevard County’s 13-0, 2-hit onslaught yesterday with a 9-run, 16-hit performance. Every player on the team got a hit. Brevard County scored first after an error from 2nd baseman Luis Guillorme. However, St. Lucie scored twice in the second inning after Wuilmer Becerra singled in Tomas Nido, who was driven in later on a Patrick Biondi single. After Brevard County scored two more in the third, St. Lucie continued to score  7 in the next 6 innings.

Champ Stuart went 3 for 4, with a triple and stolen base. Luis Guillorme continues to recover with a 2 for 5 night. SS Rosario hit his third triple, while going 1 for 5, hitting .288. Tomas Nido continued his torrid pace with a double. Nido has gotten on base for all 9 games. Wuilmer Becerra DH’d for a second straight game, returning from an injury, and has went 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBI.

Casey Delgado rebounded from giving up four runs to go 7.1 innings, giving up seven hits and striking out five. Box Score

Columbia 13 (6-6), Charleston 1

Columbia bats finally woke up scoring eight in the 8th inning of this laugher, in which Joe Shaw started and dominated. Joe Shaw went six innings, giving up four hits, and striking out eight. Seth Davis piggybacked going three innings, giving up a run on three hits while striking out 3.

On the offensive side, Columbia took full advantage of Charleston’s pitching, as the Yankees Affiliate gave up 12 hits and 10 walks. Kevin Kaczmarski out of the leadoff walked three times while not recording a hit, but scored twice. Vinny Siena walked thrice as well and went 1 for 2 with a double. David Thompson went 0-3 with two sac flies but had his hit streak end at 11 games. He now has a league leading 13 runs driven in.

1B Dash Winningham went 2 for 4 with a walk, jumping his batting average to .220. Milton Ramos went 1 for 4 with a triple with a BB and a strikeout. Box Score
