The wins keep coming for both the Mets and B-Mets. That makes for double satisfaction.

A one out, eighth inning, three run Matt Oberste home run blast lifted Binghamton past New Hampshire, 5-2, at the Fischer Cats Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.  Oberste, a 6-foot, 2-inch right-handed first baseman teamed with Dominic Smith last summer to give Port St. Lucie the most potent offensive attack around the first base sac in the Florida State League.

The big right-hander hit .301 with 24 doubles and 6 home runs for St. Lucie.  Saturday’s home run was Oberste’s first of the 2016 season.  The B-Met DH, who batted fifth in Pedro Lopez’s line-up behind Smith, is hitting .274 in the young season.

Knuckleball specialist Mickey Jannis continued a run of spectacular starting pitching for the B-Mets, surrendering only two runs on K.C. Hobson’s second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the New Hampshire second.  Jannis worked 6.1 innings, allowing 5 hits while walking 2 and fanning 3.  Luis Mateo pitched a scoreless inning in relief and was credited with his first win of the season.  Lefty David Roseboom got the hold and Akeel Morris picked up his second save of the year.

Trailing 2-0, Binghamton plated two runs in the top of the third to even the contest.  Xorge Carrillo opened the frame by lining a double to center field.  Jared King followed ripping a shot to center, the first of his three hits in the game, and then used some heads-up base running to advance to second when New Hampshire tried to nab Carrillo, who had hesitated to assure the ball was not caught, trying to advance to third.  A ground ball single to right field by Maikis De La Cruz scored both runners.

The score would remain at 2-2 until Oberste’s blast in the eighth, a shot that gave Binghamton their sixth straight win.  At 11-9, the B-Mets stand in fourth place in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division, 1.5 games behind Trenton, 2 games in back of Reading and a full 6 games behind the red hot Hartford Yard Goats.  Hartford is riding a 9 game winning streak. Marc Krauss had two hits including his third homer of the year. Everyone in the 51s lineup had a hit besides Danny Muno who reached on a walk.

Seth Lugo pick up his second win of the year but continued to struggle allowing four runs in five innings lowering his ERA to 9.68. He did strike out six batters and has struck out 18 in 17 innings this year. The 51s bullpen combined to throw four scoreless innings to preserve the victory.
