Portland 1, (Boston, 12-23), Binghamton 0 (14-18) Box Score

Binghamton and Portland faced off for one game of a double-header, but the other one was postponed until the next day. Binghamton was blanked for all seven innings of game one of the double-header, only mustering one hit against right-hander Justin Haley.

Lefty Andrew Barbosa started the game and pitched 4.1 innings, while giving up two hits and walking three, while striking out five. Righty Luis Mateo kept Portland Scoreless until the seventh, giving up two hits while striking out one. He has been very effective over his last fifteen innings, giving up only three runs. Right-hander Beck Wheeler gave up three singles including the one that ended the game.

The B-Mets only hit was a single by right fielder Stefan Sabol. Binghamton and Portland will try again for the double-header Saturday, starting at 1:00 with Rainy Lara (2-3, 3.38) on the mound.

Health Note: Righty Robert Gsellman was placed on the 7-day DL with a mild groin strain, activating Lara.

St. Lucie 3 (19-15), Fort Myers 1 (Minnesota, 20-15) Box Score

Center field Champ Stuart led the way from the leadoff position by scoring twice and hitting a double. Scarlyn Reyes gave up a run in seven innings in a bounce-back performance against Fort Myers. Amed Rosario continues to impress, with a multi-hit and RBI game from the 3-hole.

Reyes pitched seven great innings,  giving up a run on five hits while striking out four. This was a remarkable improvement over his seven-inning five run appearance last time out against Fort Myers on 5/7. Lefty Alberto Baldonaldo and righty Corey Taylor proceeded with pitching a scoreless inning each. Taylor picked up his third save of the year.

Stuart went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two strikeouts. He is currently hitting .252/.352/.407, and is proving to be a good spark plug for St. Lucie through 31 games. Rosario went 2 for 4, driving in two, and striking out once. Rosario currently leads the Florida State League with 26 runs batted in.  Right fielder Wuilmer Becerra and catcher Tomas Nido pinched in a double, as their only hit. Kevin Taylor went 1 for 4, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.

Fort Myers and St. Lucie continue their series with righty Chris Flexen (2-4, 4.54) on the mound.

Asheville 3 (Colorado, 16-16), Columbia 2 (18-16) Box Score

First baseman Dash Winningham drives in both runs in a loss against Asheville. Lefty Kevin Canelon took the hard-luck loss with a seven inning performance.

Winningham went 2 for 4 with his first home run of the year and a double, while driving in two. David Thompson had a 2 for 4 night with a strikeout. Shortstop Milton Ramos remained patient with two walks in his 0 for 2 day, raising his on-base percentage to .306. Center fielder Kevin Kaczmarski continues to hit well since returning from the DL with a two-hit performance from the leadoff spot. Jean RodriguezVinny Siena, and Vicente Lupo all collected a hit during the game as well.

Lefty Kevin Canelon had a great performance, throwing a season-high seven innings, while giving up three runs on seven hits. He also struck out six in his seven innings. Johnny Magliozzi finished the game with two scoreless innings, while striking out two.
