Sacramento 5, Las Vegas (13-14) 3 Box Score

The River Cats scored five runs in the fifth inning and that would be all they needed when the 51s ninth inning rally fell short. Gavin Cecchini (1 for 4) hit a two-run double in the final inning but Ty Kelly came up as the tying run and grounded out to end the game. Gavin now has 15 hits and seven RBI over his last nine starts, he did however make two fielding errors on the night.

T.J. Rivera (1 for 3, BB) extended his hitting streak to 12 games and was the only Vegas hitter to reach base twice on the night. Marc Krauss ( 1 for 4) hit a solo home run for his fourth of the season. Dilson Herrera (1 for 4) led off and is now hitting .277 for the season. Brandon Nimmo had his seven-game hitting streak snapped with an o for 4 night.

Lefty Duane Below took the loss after going five innings allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out seven. Dario Alvarez pitched two scoreless innings with four more strikeouts. Despite a 7.15 ERA, Alvarez has struck out a remarkable 23 batters in only 11.1 innings this year.

The 51s have now lost three straight games and have gone 3-6 versus Sacramento this season who are only 13-16. They play each other again tonight at 10:05 PM ET with Gabriel Ynoa (2-0, 2.05) on the mound for Vegas.

Binghamton (14-11) 6, Akron 3 F/7 Box Score

For the second time in three games the B-Mets won in a rain shortened game and are 9-2 over their last 11. Dominic Smith knocked in the deciding run in the bottom of the fifth on a line drive single to center field. He went 3 for 4 with two RBI, run scored and his 6th double of the season. He is now batting .294/.339/.461 to start the year with 22 RBI which is the second most in the league.

Over his last ten games, Dom has hit .385 with 12 RBI and has struck out only four times. He has gone 14 for 42 (.333) with runners in scoring position. Something to watch with Smith is he admitted to tweaking his ankle when trying to score unsuccessfully on a hit in the fifth inning. He was also checked out by the Mets trainer at second in the seventh after his double but was left in. According to an article by Lynn Worthy, manager Pedro Lopez says Smith is fine and will be in the lineup on Saturday.

Outfielder Kyle Johnson reached base three more times (2 for 3, BB) while knocking in a run and scoring two. He has now been on 18 times over his last seven games and has scored 12 runs in that span. Raywilly Gomez (1 for 2, BB) knocked in his first two B-Mets run with his first double of the season.

The knuckleball was floating all over the place for Mickey Jannis who threw 84 pitches in four innings with just 42 of them for strikes. He walked five, allowed three runs but did strike out six. His season ERA rose to 4.56 to along with a 1.44 WHIP. Logan Taylor (3-0) picked up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out five while lowering his ERA to 1.72. He is holding the Eastern League to a .185 average against him.

Here you can watch the double Smith hit to left field. Binghamton plays Akron today at 1:05 with their ace Robert Gsellman (1-1, 1.82) getting the start.

Fort Myers 2, St. Lucie (15-13) 1 Box Score

The Mets had six baserunners all night and none of them came outside of the 3-5 hitters who all had two hits. Amed Rosario (#3 hitter) went 2 for 4 and led off the ninth with a single then stole second to get in scoring position but was stranded there. His slash line for the season is now .324/.364/.523 as he leads the Florida State League with 58 total bases.

Wuilmer Becerra (#5 hitter) entered the night with the second best batting average in the minors at .405 and finished the night at .416. He went 2 for 3 while extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Padres catching prospect Austin Allen went 2 for 5 so he still holds on to the leagues best average at .425 for the year.

The cleanup hitter Kevin Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double and scored the lone St. Lucie run. He is now hitting .339/.448/.536 during his first season in the Mets organization.

Starter Ricky Knapp finished his outing with five straight scoreless innings after allowing a run in the first inning. He continues to pitch well (2.20 ERA) despite striking out only 17 batters 28.2 innings in 2016. Alberto Baldonado hadn’t given up a run since April 8th until he allowed the Miracle to score one last night in the 7th inning that saddled him with his first loss of the year.

Greensboro 5, Columbia (14-13) 2 F/7 (Game One) Box Score

The Fireflies offense was asleep during the doubleheader producing only two hits in each game with David Thompson having both of them in game one. He went 2 for 3 with his baseball leading 32nd RBI. Enmannuel Zabala walked twice, stole a base and scored a run out of the leadoff spot. Ivan Wilson also walked twice, stole a base and scored the only other Columbia run on a sac fly by Tyler Moore.

Thomas McIlraith was pitching well until it all unraveled in a three-run sixth inning when he allowed three singles and uncorked two wild pitches. He fell to 1-2 with a 4.85 ERA after allowing five runs (four earned) in six innings on eight hits and just one strikeout.

Columbia (15-13) 2, Greensboro 1 F/7 (Game Two) Box Score

The Fireflies scored two runs in the third inning (walk, wild pitch, walk, sac bunt, error, stolen base, sac fly) without needing a hit and that is all starter Kevin Canelon would need to get his second win. Thompson went without a hit but knocked in his 33rd run and stole his second base. Vinny Siena (1 for 2, sac bunt) and Wilson (1 for 3) had the only hits for Columbia.

Canelon was spectacular for the Fireflies going five scoreless one-hit innings and struck out seven including five of the final six batters he faced. Closer Alex Palsha allowed a run in the sixth before bouncing back for a 1-2-3 final inning to pick up his second save of the year.
