AAA – Pacific Coast League

El Paso 4, Las Vegas (53-54) 0 Box Score

51s only had three hits on the night as Matt Reynolds and Gavin Cecchini were both out of the lineup. Reynolds is flying to New York in case Asdrubal Cabrera goes on disabled list but Cecchini was just sitting and was never used in the game.

Smoker has allowed only two earned runs over last 14.1 innings and has 20 strikeouts in that span.

AA – Eastern League

Portland Sea Dogs 8, Binghamton Mets (49-57) 1 Box Score

The Sea Dogs were led by elite prospects Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi. Moncada went 3-4 with a triple and Benintendi contributed two homers.

The Bingo bats were quiet in this one scoring only one run on seven hits.

Lara ran into another rough outing in his return to Bingo from his very short stint in Vegas.

A Advanced – Florida State League

The game was suspended due to rain, they will resume action on 8/1.

A – South Atlantic League

Asheville Tourists 4, Columbia Fireflies (48-57) 1 Box Score

  • J.C. Rodriguez SS: 1-4, 2B, RBI .241
  • Patrick Mazeika DH: 2-3, BB, .280

The Columbia bats continue to struggle this season. They were 1 for 7 with RISP in this game and left eight men on base.

  • Joe Shaw RHP: 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 5 K, L (5-8 4.61)
  • Nicco Blank RHP: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO (2.89)
  • Tyler Bashlor RHP: IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (2.51)

Joe Shaw has been eating a lot of innings for Fireflies but has struggled to provided consist performance this year as shown by his ERA which is close to 5.

Short Season A – New York Penn League

Aberdeen Ironbirds 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (21-21) 0 Box Score

This was an ugly performance for the Cyclones bats getting blanked and only collecting two hits. Thomas Szapucki, who suffered a hard-luck loss, had another stellar performance pitching seven innings while giving up one unearned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts. Let’s hope the Mets don’t trade this guy.

The lone run of the game scored on a three base sacrifice fly when outfielder Arnaldo Berrios made a nice catch but ran into the wall and injured himself in doing so. Szapucki has now struck out 65 batters this year in 44.1 innings while his name comes up in trade talks it would be surprising to see the rising prospect get traded. Our own Jacob Resnick was at the game, you can read his recap here.

Rookie – Appalachian League

Kingsport (15-23) 8, Johnson City 5 Box Score

The Kingsport bats came alive in this one, scoring eight runs on 10 hits.

Rookie – Gulf Coast League

GCL Mets (13-17) 6, GCL Astros 2 Box Score

This was a sloppy game with six errors made in total. The GCL Mets scored six runs on five hits.

  • Luis De Los Santos RHP: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 6 K (2-3, 2.89)
