Short Season A – New York Penn League
Aberdeen Ironbirds 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (21-21) 0 Box Score
- Colby Woodmansee SS 1-3, BB, .298
This was an ugly performance for the Cyclones bats getting blanked and only collecting two hits. Thomas Szapucki, who suffered a hard-luck loss, had another stellar performance pitching seven innings while giving up one unearned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts. Let’s hope the Mets don’t trade this guy.
- Thomas Szapucki LHP: 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, L (1-1, 0.00)
- Adam Atkins RHP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB (4.50)
- Taylor Henry LHP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 K (2.29)
The lone run of the game scored on a three base sacrifice fly when outfielder Arnaldo Berrios made a nice catch but ran into the wall and injured himself in doing so. Szapucki has now struck out 65 batters this year in 44.1 innings while his name comes up in trade talks it would be surprising to see the rising prospect get traded. Our own Jacob Resnick was at the game, you can read his recap here.

- Luis De Los Santos RHP: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 6 K (2-3, 2.89)
Can Szapucki see another promotion this year? Get the Sale treatment?
please dont trade him
We seemed to have not a single “stud” pitcher in the minors…at the beginning of the year.
Now, we have Szapucki, Dunn….and maybe a late bloomer in Smoker (his strikeout ratio is impressive).
