MMN Recap 8/25: Conforto Homers Off Lefty, Cespedes Hits First Pro Homer

Las Vegas 51s (63-70) 10 vs. Salt Lake Bees (58-72) 5 F/7 BOX SCORE

The 51s scored eight runs (five earned) against Tim Lincecum. Michael Conforto homered again against a lefty, a two run shot off lefty Cody Ege.

It was just the second outing in Triple-A this season for Verrett. He got the win in both starts, Verrett pitched six scoreless on June the 16th.

Salt Lake Bees (59-72) 3 vs. Las Vegas 51s (63-71) 0 F/7 BOX SCORE

The Las Vegas 51s collected just three hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Conforto collected another hit and is now 26 for 50 with five home runs since rejoining the 51s.

  • Tyler Pill RHP: 5 IP, 7 H, ER, 3 BB, 2 K, L (1-1 6.30 ERA)
  • Josh Edgin LHP: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 K (3.13 ERA)

Pill allowed ten baserunners but, just one lone run in five innings of work. Edgin has not been good since rejoining the 51s, in three innings of work he has allowed four runs.

 Binghamton (61-68) 6, Bowie Baysox 4 Box Score

Evans had his fifth three-hit game his last ten games and also had a four hit game during that span. Over those last ten games he’s hit .465. Evans would currently lead the Eastern League in batting but needs 46 plate appearances in the last 11 games to qualify. Dom Smith had hit fifth game in a row where he collected a RBI. Smith has a .412 batting average in his last ten games. Smith now has 28 doubles and 88 RBIs on the season. Amed Rosario had the night off.

Kyle Regnault pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Tim Peterson allowed two runs while recording just one out. David Roseboom got his 13th save of the season but, it did not come easy.

St. Lucie Mets (67-58) 13 vs. Charlotte Stone Crabs (62-65) 0 BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie Mets got another big win. Jupiter also won which means that they stayed tied for first place in the second half standings.

The St. Lucie Mets collected 17 hits. David Thompson drove in two to give him 89 RBIs in 107 games this season. Lednier Ricardo hit his second homerun of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. Jhoan Urena has been much better in the second half, hitting .260 and .320 in his last ten games.

Flexen pitched five or more innings for just the fifth time in his last ten games. It has been an up and down year for the hard throwing 22 year old. Tyler Bashlor made just his third appearance with the St. Lucie Mets, he has a 2.45 ERA combined with 65 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched this season.

Columbia Fireflies (61-69) 7 vs. Charleston RiverDogs (70-59) 1 BOX SCORE

The Fireflies collected 14 hits in the victory that was highlighted by Mazeika’s his second career four hit game. He also went 4 for 5 for the Kingsport Mets on August 4th of last season.

  • Joe Shaw RHP: 5.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 4 BB, 4 K, W (8-9 4.46 ERA)
  • Craig Missigman RHP: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K (H,6 3.02 ERA)

Joe Shaw bounced back with a solid start after allowing eight run in his last start. Jimmy Duff pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the deal for the Fireflies.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers (32-32) 5 vs. Brooklyn Cyclones (32-33) 1 BOX SCORE

The Cyclones were 1 for 8 with RISP and left 13 runners on base in the loss. Ali Sanchez and Franklin Correa both doubled. Desmond Lindsay has been terrific when he stays on the field.

The best pitching performance of the day from the Cyclones was from second baseman Franklin Correa. He has pitched in two games, allowing just one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings.

Before the game it was announced that Thomas Szapucki will be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Kingsport Mets (22-39) 10 vs. Princeton Rays (32-27) 4 BOX SCORE

Ricardo Cespedes hit his first career home run in the second four hit game of his career. Cespedes has been on fire lately collecting his sixth multi-hit games in his last ten, over that span he has hit .419.

  • Jake Simon LHP: 7 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 5 K, W (2-5 5.25 ERA)

This was Simon’s best start of the season as he finished seven innings for just the second time. He allowed just two runs and no walks.

GCL Mets (23-27) 5 vs. GCL Astros (20-29) 2 BOX SCORE

The GCL Mets made there seven hits count as they scored three in the sixth then one in the seventh and ninth.

  • Corey Oswalt RHP: Struck out the side in a scoreless first (Rehab Outing)
  • Nicolas Debora RHP: 6 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 6 K, W (3-2 5.24)

DSL Mets1 and DSL Mets2 were both postponed.
