MMN Recap: Adolph Breaks Out in Brooklyn Win, Smith Homers

Las Vegas (50-54) 8, Nashville (50-53) 5   Box Score

The 51s got off to a quick start with a five-run first inning in which Alonso drove in a run with a single and Smith hit a two-run homer. Alonso is starting to heat up with a four-game hit streak. Smith is now 4-16 with a home run and a double since his demotion, as he attempts to regain his form and beat out his new teammates Alonso for the first base job. Kaczmarski just continues to get on base and collect hits, albeit with not a ton of power. Ty Kelly returned to the lineup after being designated for assignment and clearing waivers, collecting two hits in the win.

Despite the up-and-down results and just two wins in 20 starts, Gagnon became the current PCL strikeouts leader with 10 more last night. Baumann has been mediocre with the 51s after posting a 0.00 ERA in eight games with the Chihuahuas, but he got his man last night to end the sixth. Bautista has been better lately, allowing only two runs in seven innings since the All-Star break, but he is still allowing a lot of baserunners overall. For awhile Purke appeared to be turning a corner, as his outings were progressively improving, but his July numbers have been ugly, with a 10.45 ERA, .326 opponents batting average and 2.23 WHIP. Beck continued to slowly improve, as he now has three straight scoreless outings and has given up only one run in his last five innings after allowing five runs in 0.1 of an inning in his first appearance. However, batters are still hitting .429 off him in his still limited body of work with the 51s.

Altoona (54-46) 8, Binghamton (48-55) 7 Box Score

Gimenez collected his first two Double-A hits including a a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning to put Binghamton up 6-4. Nido is now slashing .333/.347/.551 for the month of July. Toffey is 3-for-14 with a homer and four walks since being acquired from the Oakland Athletics. Patrick Biondi had four hits in the game.

It was the worst outing for Ryan in his Mets career, he allowed a three-run walk-off homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth.

St. Lucie (40-59) 6, Charlotte (51-47) 5 Box Score

Carpio is hitting .329/.389/.500 during the month of July with five doubles and three home runs. Outfielder Raphael Gladu hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Rome (56-47) 14, Columbia (48-52) 5 Box Score

Rheams, Mets 27th rounder this year, has a .896 OPS in 14 games with Columbia after being promoted from Kingsport.

Brookyln Cyclones (21-18) 12, Mahoning Valley (24-13 4 Box Score

Adolph, Mets 12th round pick this year, finished a double short of the cycle and hit his sixth triple of the season. The Cyclones went 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

The .469 OBP from Santana is second best in the Appalachian League and his .364 AVG is fourth.

DSL Mets1 (27-18) 8, DSL Rockies (18-27) 7 F/10 Box Score

The Mets had 15 hits in the game including six with runners in scoring position. Juan De La Rosa had three hits and knocked in two runs. Andres Regnault left the game after getting hit by a pitch.

DSL Mets2 (22-24) 7, DSL Tigers1 (20-26) 5 Box Score

Jeison Rodriguez and Eulises Sanchez each homered in the same.

Diaz picked up his first professional win. Lefty Jefferson Escorcha threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his ninth save.
