Las Vegas (63-65) 7, Salt Lake (66-62) 4  Box Score

Alonso homered for the second straight game after a brief skid, a solo shot to get the 51s on the board in the fourth. He has still mashed his way to a .275/.378/.667 line in August. Kivlehan has been a beast in August, batting .351/.377/.947.  Guillorme’s bat has been a bit iffy lately, as he’s batting .184 over his last ten games. Strange and inconsistent playing time at the Major League level could not have helped. Lobaton also hit a solo shot.

  • RHP Scott Copeland (W, 3-2, 3.34 ERA): 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K
  • LHP Kyle Regnault (3-1, 4.71 ERA): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, K
  • RHP Tim Peterson (0-1, 3.75 ERA): 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, 3 K
  • RHP Jacob Rhame (1-2, 3.26 ERA): 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Copeland turned in yet another solid start, and now has a 3.13 ERA in four starts since being promoted from Binghamton. At 30 years old, he’s no prospect, but he’s pitched well enough to be deserving of a look in September. Regnault’s command was all over the place, as he walked three batters in a row after retiring the first two in the seventh. Luckily for him, Peterson came in and got a strikeout to end the inning. Regnault’s numbers in August still look dominant even with the three walks; he has a 0.84 ERA, .162 opponents batting average and 0.84 WHIP for the month, and last night’s walks were his only three this month. He’s also recorded 15 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. Peterson’s had a couple iffy outings lately after struggling in the Majors, while Rhame has gotten his season back on track and has been dominant at times in Vegas.

Hartford (59-66) 4, Binghamton (60-68) 3  Box Score

  • Mickey Jannis (L, 9-6, 3.78 ERA) – 8 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 7 K, 0 BB

Jannis pitched a complete game, striking out seven in eight innings of work. He held Harford scoreless before allowing three runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth, giving back Binghamton’s 3-0 lead.

Mazeika led off the fifth with a solo home run to give Bingo a 1-0 lead and added two more in the sixth on a Will Toffey two-run double.

After giving up the lead in the seventh, Binghamton loaded the bases in the top of the eighth but couldn’t capitalize, and put another runner in scoring position in the ninth but failed to tie it up.

Tampa (63-65) 6, St. Lucie (51-73) 3  Box Score

Llanes went seven strong innings, allowing eight hits but giving up just two runs. Trey Cobb inherited a one-run lead in the eighth but allowed four runs in his two innings of work and took the loss.

Jay Bruce, playing first base, hit a solo homer and added an RBI single to raise his rehab assignment slash line to .360/.407/.520. He’s expected to be called back up to the New York Mets on Friday.

Anthony Domino went 3-for-4 with a run driven in and David Wright went o-for-3 in five innings at third.

Tri-City (36-27) 7, Brooklyn (34-29) 6  Box Score

Walker allowed five runs to cross, wasting a three-run first by the Cyclones, and didn’t make it out of the second inning. Megill took the loss after going four innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a two-run single from Chambers and a run-scoring groundout. After falling behind 5-3 in the bottom of the second, Brooklyn tied it up in the sixth, but gave up the lead in the bottom half and couldn’t claw back again.

Kingsport (30-30) 7, Bristol (29-31), 6 – Game 1 Box Score

Taveras allowed four earned runs on seven hits over six innings in his fifth win of the season. Metoyer picked up his first save of the season, allowing two unearned runs in his one inning of work, but keeping the Mets lead intact.

Mets 2018 first-round pick Jarred Kelenic went 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth of the season, and an RBI double. Raul Beracierta drove in two runs of his own. Recently promoted Ronny Mauricio went 1-for-2 with walk, run scored and a stolen base in his Kingsport debut.

Kingsport (31-30) 13, Bristol (29-32) 6 – Game 2Box Score

Simeon Woods-Richardson, Mets 2018 second rounder, threw three perfect innings in his first appearance for the Kingsport Mets. Liam McCall walked five batters and allowed six runs in his two-thirds of an inning. Jose Moreno picked up his third win of the year in two scoreless innings of work.

  • Guillermo Granadillo, DH – 2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI – .333/.415/.368
  • Jarred Kelenic, CF – 2-for-3, R,  2 RBI – .271/.360/.457
  • Ronny Mauricio, SS – 1-for-3, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI – .281/.312/.422

Kelenic added two more runs batted in and two more hits after his two-hit day in the first game of the doubleheader. Mauricio went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in his first day in the Appalachian League.

GCL Mets (23-29), GCL Astros (27-26) – Cancelled (Rain)

DSL Rangers2 (49-50) 5, DSL Mets2 (31-37) 4  Box Score

Villegas walked four batters and allowed two runs to score in two-thirds of an inning, Villalba allowed two runs, and Vargas took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run to score in the eighth.

Medina contributed a two-run triple, Cabrera added a run-scoring double, and Marquez drove in his fifth run of the season in a tough loss to the DSL Rangers2.

DSL Mets1 (45-24) 8, DSL Yankees (26-42) 2 – Box Score

Edinson Diaz went four scoreless innings striking out eight and walking none, and Reyson Santos picked up his second win of the season despite allowing a two-run homer in the sixth, well after the Mets were up comfortably.

The Mets scored seven runs in the second, led off by a De La Rosa double and finished with a De La Rosa double ten batters later.
