Alonso must work on defense. When Dom promoted then dominos Oberste Vegas, and Alonso Bing.
Oberste doesn’t have to move for Alonso to move up. Obie can DH. Bing is also the Mets’ only farm team with a good shot at the playoffs. And since Sandy got here, the Mets have generally balked at promoting players up from teams that are playoff bound
Fresh116s
Wouldn’t Oberste move up when Dom comes up freeing the spot for Alonso? Or would they keep the team loaded for the playoffs?
That is the linear, straightforward way to do it. But they don’t have to do it that way. Cody Decker and Josh Rodriguez can both play 1B in Vegas. Both have been spending a lot of time on the bench lately because Vegas is giving all the OF playing time to the homegrown Mets – Cruzado, Taijeron, and Jayce Boyd (who can also play 1B). So Vegas doesn’t need to replace Smith.
The Mets can promote Alonso to Bing and use him or Obie at DH. Bing’s roster is at 24 AA players now (plus three Mets who are there on rehab). So there is already room for one more, anyway.
