Justin Dunn took the hill for the Rumble Ponies, and the right-handed pitcher delivered a quality start. In 6.2 innings pitched, Dunn allowed only five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. Dunn ran into trouble in the second inning with runners on first and third. He walked the bases loaded with one out, but then induced an inning-ending double play to get out of the jam. In the fifth inning, Dunn hit the leadoff batter. After getting two outs, Dunn allowed a double and a single to surrender two runs and tie the game.

With a one run lead in the eighth inning, Matt Blackham entered the game. Blackham allowed a two-run home run with two outs to give Reading a 4-3 lead. Since being promoted from St. Lucie to Binghamton, Blackham has a 4.32 ERA over 16.2 innings of work.

Binghamton jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after leadoff batter Kevin Taylor reached on an error. First baseman Joey Terdoslavich tripled in Taylor, and Terdoslavich later scored on a sacrifice fly. After the first inning, the Rumble Ponies were held scoreless for six innings.

John Mora reached on a bunt single to lead off the eighth inning, and he later came around to score, giving Binghamton a 3-2 lead. Binghamton later gave up the lead, and the offense was unable to claw back.

Starting Pitcher David Peterson took the mound for St. Lucie, and he turned in his best start since being promoted from Columbia. This is the first appearance with St. Lucie in which Peterson did not allow any earned runs. Over 10 starts with the Mets, Peterson now has a 5.75 ERA. Stephen Villines closed out the game with a scoreless inning, and he now has a 0.41 ERA with St. Lucie this season.

The Mets offense came to life, driving in 11 runs on 14 hits through the course of the evening. Outfielder Quinn Brodey led the offensive onslaught, collecting three hits and driving in six runs. Quinn started the scoring in the second inning with a single that drove in two runs. In the fifth inning, Michael Paez struck a run-scoring single, and Ali Sanchez followed with a sacrifice fly. Quinn Brodey struck a double to score another run, and St. Lucie eventually wrapped up the inning with a 6-0 lead.

The Mets added to their lead in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Sanchez. Brodey drove in the final three runs of the game with a two-out home run in the sixth inning.

Delmarva Shorebirds (59-55) 0, Columbia Fireflies (52-62) 1 Box Score

The Fireflies quickly found themselves in a deficit after starting pitcher Luc Rennie tossed a wild pitch and allowed a base runner to score. Delmarva would go on to score two more runs through the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth inning, the Shorebirds offense exploded to pull away from Columbia.

Starting pitcher Luc Rennie turned in a solid outing, but his bullpen and offense doomed him. Reliever Carlos Hernandez was hit hard, allowing four earned runs in only 1.2 innings of work.

The Fireflies offense was largely stagnant for most of the night. Columbia only collected four hits, two of which were struck by right fielder David Miranda. In the fifth inning, Miranda singled to drive in Columbia’s lone run of the evening.

The matchup between the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Lowell Spinners was rained out. It will be made up on Sunday at 3:05 a.m.

Kingsport Mets (26-24) 14, Danville Braves (28-22) 6 Box Score

The Mets found themselves buried into a 5-0 deficit by the start of the third inning. Mark Vientos started the scoring for Kingsport with a two-run double that scored Jarred Kelenic and Shervyen Newton in the third inning. Kenny Hernandez followed that up with a sinlge of his own to score Vientos.

While trailing 5 to 3 in the fifth inning, Newton struck a single to score a run. The Mets then took the lead in the sixth inning when three runs scored on a Yoel Roero single and a Danville throwing error. The Mets would go on to score seven more runs to put the game far out of reach.

GCL Cardinals (30-15) 6, GCL Mets (20-25) 1 Box Score

Starting pitcher Max Kuhns continued his rehab assignment with the GCL Mets. In four starts with Kingsport, Kuhns has yet to allow a run over five innings pitched. Reliever Jender De Jesus ran into trouble in the third inning. The Cardinals offense exploded for six runs in the inning, digging the Mets into a 56-0 hole. De Jesus raised his ERA to 7.32 after allowing five runs on four hits and three walks.

The Mets offense jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but then sputtered out and failed to score a run for the remainder of the day. Star shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio failed to collect a hit, and the remainder of the team only had five hits collectively.

DSL Mets1 (39-21) 10, DSL Rockies (20-40) 0 Box Score

• LHP Jefferson Escorcha (5-3, 1.54 ERA): 5.2 IP, 4 H, BB, 4 K

Armed with a 6-0 lead after three innings, the pitching staff was able to mow down Rockies batters. Jefferson Escorcha and Joshua Cornielly combined to allow eight hits, one walk, and no runs while striking out six in nine innings.

The Mets1 jumped out to an early lead, collecting three runs in the first, two in the second, and one in the third. The Mets1 drove in 10 runs while collecting 14 hits. Four players had multi-hit games, three of whom collected three hits each.

DSL Mets2 (29-31) 7, DSL Tigers1 (27-33) 5 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 struck first with a run in the second inning, but the Tigers1 responded in the bottom of the third. After six innings, the Mets2 trailed 4-1, but they scored six runs in the final three innings to take a 7-5 lead and the victory. The Mets2 collected seven hits, but no single player had multiple hits.

Starting pitcher Kevin Hernandez turned in a spectacular performance, allowing only one unearned run on two hits over five innings of work. Hernandez lowered his season ERA from 11.12 to 5.91 with his outing tonight.
