Las Vegas (19-27) 10, Sacramento (22-24) 7  Box Score

After exposing Smith to left field in the previous game, Smith was right back at first base.  The key rally was in the sixth inning when a Jordan Schafer wild pitch allowed not just Cody Asche to score, but after a throwing error by the catcher Ronnie Freeman, Smith was able to score as well.  Kelly scored the third run of that inning on a Monell sacrifice fly.

  • LHP P.J. Conlon (2-3, 6.58 ERA) 3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Kyle Regnault (W, 2-1, 5.56 ERA) 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K
  • RHP Drew Smith (3-0, 3.66 ERA) 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • LHP Buddy Baumann (0-0, 4.26) 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Tim Peterson (S, 0-1, 2.45 ERA) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K

While Conlon continues his Las Vegas struggles having his third start allowing five plus runs in less than four innings pitched, the bullpen stepped up. With his two scoreless innings, Smith has not given up a run over his last 6.2 innings pitched. Peterson recorded his fifth save of the year and lowered his ERA top 2.45.

Richmond (21-19) vs. Binghamton (22-20) PPD

Last night’s game was postponed due to wet field conditions and impending storms. The game will be made up tonight in a doubleheader.  First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:35 P.M.

Clearwater (17-25) 6, St. Lucie (17-20) 1 (Game 1) Box Score

In Game One, St. Lucie’s offense was held to five hits in the losing effort with the lone run coming via a Cone RBI groundout. Even with the RBI ground out, Cone is struggling of late after what was his best stretch of the season.  He is now 0-6 over his last two games with three strikeouts and no walks.

Right-hander Justin Dunn immediately showed that he did not have his best stuff tonight by giving up an RBI double to Darick Hall in the first inning. This was his second start since coming off the disabled list, and in both starts he failed to pitch five innings.  This marked his worst start of the season with this being the first time he has allowed more than two earned in a start.

Clearwater (16-25) 11, St. Lucie (17-20) 1 (Game 2) Box Score

St. Lucie’s offense did not fare much better in the second half of the double header scoring one run on just four hits.  With the base hit, Kaczmarksi now has a four game hitting streak.

  • RHP Gary Cornish (L, 1-3, 6.19 ERA) 2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Ryder Ryan (1-0, 1.86 ERA) 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
  • LHP Blake Taylor (1-2, 5.22 ERA) 3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Joseph Zanghi (1-0, 1.83) 1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB

With Cornish unable to get out of the third inning, his ERA ballooned from 3.86 to 6.19.  Ryan continued his dominant stretch, and he now has allowed just four runs while striking out 22 in 19.1 innings of work.  This marked the first time Zanghi has allowed more than one earned run in an appearance since July 2nd of last year.

West Virginia (24-18) 4, Columbia (23-21) 5 Box Score

Fermin’s big game included a one out walk-off single. This was just one of many times the Fireflies delivered a key hit as the team was 5-9 with runners in scoring position.  With Manea’s big game, he snapped a 0-20 streak stretching over his past six games.

Right-hander Briam Campusano had a solid start only allowing his three runs in the third inning. Campusano now has had one start at St Lucie and one start at Columbia. Yeizo Campos pitched a dominant four and one third innings only giving up two hits and striking out five. In 10.1 innings, Campos has given up no runs only allowing five hits while striking out 12. Connor O’Neil. earned his third win of the year pitching one inning and giving up an unearned run.
