The 51s didn’t get on the board until they were already down 10-0 in the bottom of the seventh, when the slumping Evans hit his fifth home run of the season. They chipped away in the eighth and ninth with RBIs from Johnny Monell, Ty Kelly and den Dekker, but they were never really in this game.

Cecchini, who is off to a solid start, got hit by a pitch in the eighth inning and had to be carried off the field.

Worley had an ugly start, getting whacked around for ten hits and nine runs in five innings, aided by Kelly’s fifth error of the season and Monell’s fourth passed ball of the season. Peterson, who has started to look a little more human lately, gave up a run in two innings and did not record a strikeout. Bautista had his second straight iffy outing since getting promoted from Binghamton to Las Vegas, although he didn’t walk anyone, which is usually the root of his problems.

Plaia made his second consecutive pitching appearance, and has now been on the mound four times already this season. He finally gave up a run this time, but otherwise got threw the inning unscathed. The backup catcher is starting to build up a bit of a pitching resume, which shows you how the 51s pitching staff has generally been faring.

Hartford (19-13) 7, Binghamton (14-15) 3 – Box Score

Hartford led 5-0 by the time the Rumble Ponies put their three runs on the board in the sixth. Champ Stuartwalked to lead off the inning and was followed by three consecutive doubles from Levi Michael, Jeff McNeil, and Peter Alonso.

Alonso and Kevin Taylor were left on base to end the frame when Jhoan Urena grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Jannis ran into trouble in the second after a clean first inning, allowing a single, a stolen base, a walk, a double steal, and then gave up two runs on a Wes Rogers double. He retired the last two batters to leave Rogers stranded on third after another stolen bag.

Hartford struck again in the fourth on a Ryan Metzler two-run homer (after a leadoff walk) to give the Yard Goats a 4-0 lead.  Garrett Hampson added another solo shot to lead off the fifth for Hartford. Jannis finished the inning but the damage was done.

Adonis Uceta gave up a run-scoring triple in the sixth after a batter reached base on catcher’s interference with two outs. He worked around a two out single for a clean frame in the seventh and Austin McGeorge pitched a scoreless eighth.

Florida (13-20) 1, St. Lucie (13-18) 0  Box Score

The Mets missed a few opportunities to score some runs early on. After a Andres Gimenez double in the first, followed by a wild pitch and a walk, a strikeout and a caught stealing ended the threat.

Gimenez led off the fourth with a single, but Desmond Lindsay grounded into a double play and Luis Carpiolined out after a Dash Winningham walk to end the fourth with no score on either side.

J.J. Franco singled with one out in the fifth but was also caught stealing. Lindsay led off the seventh with a single but the next three Mets’ batters were retired in order.

Dan Rizzie got on base with a single with two outs in the eighth but was left stranded. The Mets were set down in order in the ninth to finish the game.

After what has been an up-and-down season for Gabriel Llanes, the 22-year-old from Downey, CA pitched an absolute gem last night.

After allowing a lead-off double to start the game, he didn’t allow another base hit until allowing a single in the sixth, which was immediately followed by a double play.

After two consecutive two-out singles in the seventh, he induced a fly out to end the threat, but finally cracked in the eighth when he gave up a solo homer to Lucas Herbert to score the game’s only run.

Ryder Ryan pitched the ninth, working around a lead-off walk and a wild pitch to retire the next three batters and escape the inning unscathed.

Hickory (10-19) 11, Columbia (17-15) 10  Box Score

After a Quinn Brodey double put runners on second and third with one out in the first,  Hickory pitcher Tyree Thompson balked to score Blake Tiberi, and Ali Sanchez singled to score Brodey.  Matt Winaker singled to right, then Rigoberto Terrazas singled to score Sanchez.

Scott Manea led off the fourth inning with a solo shot to give Coumbia a 4-2 lead, then Tiberi singled to score Raphael Gladu to make it a 5-2 game.

The Fireflies put up another three spot in the fifth after Sanchez led off the inning with a home run, followed by a two-RBI double from Manea to extend the lead to 8-2.

Columbia scored two more in the ninth inning after loading the bases on three consectutive singles, a walk, and an RBI-groundout from Edgardo Fermin.

After allowing two runs in the first, Marcel Renteria was cruising until giving up back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth, followed by two walks with a strikeout between them.

Conner O’Neil came in and walked in a run, then two more scored on an error made by shortstop Edgardo Fermin. Joshua Payne entered and walked the first batter he faced to bring in another run, then threw a wild pitch later in the frame to allow another Crawdad to score.

Hickory added two more in the seventh to take the lead on two consecutive singles off of Payne to give the Crawdads an 8-6 lead after being down 8-2 to start the sixth.

After Columbia tied it up in the top of the ninth, Trey Cobb allowed a lead-off, pinch-hit home run to Tyreque Reed to end it.
