Mets affiliates split on the day with the Columbia Fireflies winning their fifth straight behind a strong 2018 debut by 2017 first round pick David Peterson.

Las Vegas (5-9) 2, Fresno (10-4) 1 Box Score

For the first six innings, the 51s made Cy Sneed look like Cy Young while not recording a single hit against him. Luckily for them, he was taken out after six no-hit innings and 92 pitches, and Brentz hit a two-run homer in the seventh, which ended up being the 51s’ only hit of the game. The home run was the first of the year for the slumping Brentz. It was a very rough day for the offense, but they made their one hit count to squeeze out a win.

  • RHP Chris Flexen (1-1, 3.60 ERA): 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Tim Peterson (0-0, 1.13 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, R, 2 K
  • RHP Corey Taylor (W, 1-0, 3.38 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, 0 R, K
  • RHP Jacob Rhame (S, 1, 0-0, 0.00 ERA): 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 2 K

Flexen struggled with command and efficiency in his third Triple-A start. He was taken out after walking the first two batters of the fifth inning having thrown 89 pitches with just 46 of them for strikes. Peterson relieved him and got a double play and a groundout to get out of the inning, and in the sixth inning he finally gave up a run on a solo homer but then struck out the next two batters. He is off to a fantastic start for the 51s with only one run given up in eight innings along with 16 strikeouts. Taylor pitched two shutout innings and has been solid in three games for Las Vegas since coming up from Binghamton, while Rhame pitched his second scoreless inning since being demoted from the Mets.

New Hampshire (8-3) 5, Binghamton  (4-6) 4 Box Score

Right-hander Joseph Shaw got through the first inning unharmed, picking off Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base after he singled to end the frame.

Shaw, 24, allowed one run in the second on a couple of base hits to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Harold Ramirez, and one more in the third after a Jonathan Davis single, an error, a couple of stolen bases, and a Guerrero sacrifice fly.

Johnny Magliozzi came in to clean up Shaw’s mess in the sixth (Juan Kelly on first, Guerrero on second, two outs). He proceeded to hit the first batter he faced, loading the bases, and gave up a single to Gunnar Heidt to plate two more.

Magliozzi pitched himself into a maj0r jam in the seventh, working around a fielding error by Andrew Ely at shortstop, a Guerrero double, nabbing Bichette at home after a fielder’s choice, a wild pitch, and then gave up a walk before Joshua Torres got the call.

Torres struck out Ramirez to end the threat and worked around two ninth-inning singles to keep his earned-run average spotless.

The Rumble Ponies didn’t get their first hit of the game until Levi Michael singled in the third inning. After Mora led off the sixth with a single, Alonso brought him around to score with his fourth double and ninth RBI of the year.

Mazeika singled to move Alonso to third and Matt Oberste hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

After the Fisher Cats took a 5-2 lead in the bottom half the sixth, Binghamton scored two in the ninth on an Alonso sacrifice fly and a Mazeika single, but Oberste struck out to end the game with the tying run on second base.

Florida (5-8) 7, St. Lucie (6-6) 6 Box Score

Prevost worked around a double and two walks in the first inning, but couldn’t escape trouble in the second. After a hit-by-pitch to lead off the frame, Jordan Rodgers hit an RBI double to score the first run of the contest.

Florida added another in the third on a Jared James home run, his second of the year. After allowing a runner to reach on a throwing error, Prevost gave up a single, a triple, and another double to end his day in the fifth.

Ryder Ryan came in to relieve, allowing one of Prevost’s runners to score in the fifth but worked a perfect sixth, keeping his earned-run average pure. Ryan has a scoreless streak of 18.2 innings dating back to last season when the Mets acquired him for Jay Bruce.

Zanghi pitched the seventh, striking out three around a Lucas Herbert single. He got a little beat up in the eighth, allowing two, two-out hits before inducing a groundout to end the threat.

In a 6-6 game, Pobereyko allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, with the runner advancing to third base on a sacrifice bunt. The Mets intentionally walked two batters to load the bases, but Alejandro Salazar singled to plate the winning run.

The Mets scored two in the third inning behind a Zanon single and stolen base, a Gimenez triple, and a Luis Carpio sacrifice fly.

St. Lucie added another in the fifth on a Gimenez single, scoring Zanon, and another in the sixth on a Winningham double to score Strom.

Zanon singled in the seventh, then moved up a base on a wild pitch. Gimenez added his third hit of the game, moving Zanon to third, then Carpio singled home to Zanon with the Mets sixth run of the game.

Columbia (9-4) 8, Greenville (3-10) 4 Box Score

David Peterson, Mets 2017 first round pick, made his first start of the season and his full season debut.  He pitched will, allowing only one run and worked around three errors as well. He threw 85 pitches with 58 of them for strikes after a minor physical issue pushed back his 2018 season debut.

Chadwick came out for the seventh and allowed a walk and three consecutive hits (single, single, double). Carlos Hernandez came in and immediately balked, but then retired a batter, walked one, and struck out Victor Acostato end the inning.

Hernandez struck out the side in the eighth, then Stephen Villines struck out three in the ninth to close it out.

The Fireflies put three on the board in the second inning on a Jeremy Vasquez single, a walk, a Rasquin single, and a Gladu two-run single.

Columbia added one more in the third on a Terrazas single, scoring Matt Winaker. After a Gladu triple in the sixth, Dan Rizzie brought him home with a single in the next at-bat, and Quinn Brodey added homers in the eighth and ninth to give the Fireflies more than enough runs to take the win.
