MMN Recap: J.T. Ginn Throws Four Scoreless Innings

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (24-11) 12, Syracuse Mets (11-26) 6

BOX SCORE

McNeil, continuing his rehab assignment in Syracuse, singled to lead off the game. Almora, also on a rehab assignment, followed up McNeil’s single with a walk. After Lee struck out, Blankenhorn, appearing in his first game with Syracuse, hit a three-run home run to right field. The four following Syracuse batters all walked, loading the bases and forcing another run home. With the bases loaded, shortstop Drew Jackson hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored catcher Martin Cervenka. Syracuse batted around, and McNeil flew out to end the top of the first. Almora reached base again in the second, leading off the inning with a single. He scored on a Blankenhorn sacrifice fly. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pitching staff held the Syracuse lineup scoreless for the final seven innings on Tuesday. 

AA: Portland Sea Dogs (21-16) 9, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-25) 4

BOX SCORE

In the third, Mangum reached first on a force out, and he stole second. A single by Senger plated Mangum, scoring Binghamton’s first run of the night. Brodey led off the fourth with a walk, and he scored three batters later whenm second baseman Luis Carpio singled to left field. Carpio led off the seventh with a single and Cortes drew a one-out walk. With two outs in the inning, Senger was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then Vientos walked to force home a Binghamton run. After a mound visit, Brodey was hit by a pitch to force home the Rumble Ponies’ fourth and final run. 

Portland got to Walker early, tagging the starter for one run in the first and four in the second. With one out in the second, Walker gave up a walk and four straight hits to give Portland a 5-0 lead. After the second, Walker settled in to pitch into the sixth. In the seventh, Mitchell gave up a leadoff triple, and the runner scored on a single by the next Portland hitter. Portland plated three unearned runs in the ninth after an error by Shaw. Gilliam replaced Shaw, walked the first batter he faced, then gave up a triple that scored two of the unearned runs. 

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (11-23) 3, Wilmington Blue Rocks (18-17) 1

Bohanek accounted for half of Brooklyn’s six total hits on Tuesday night. The left fielder collected three hits, including two doubles and a triple, and he scored the first Brooklyn run of the night on an Alvarez single in the fourth inning. In the eighth, with the game tied 1-1, Bohanek hit a one-out triple to drive in center fielder Antoine Duplantis. Bohanek came around to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Ronny Mauricio. Baty singled in the eighth, but the third baseman also struck out three times on the night. 

Lasko, 24, got the start and tossed six innings of one-run ball. The 30th-round pick in 2019 pitched a perfect first on Tuesday, then gave up a leadoff double to start the second inning. The base runner came around to score on a one-out single. After the second inning, Lasko settled in to pitch four straight scoreless frames to get through the sixth. Metoyer entered in the seventh and gave up a two-out walk, but then Alvarez picked off the base runner at first base to end the inning. Edwards earned the save and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

A-: Jupiter Hammerheads (19-18) 6, St. Lucie Mets (20-17) 5

BOX SCORE

The Jupiter pitching staff held St. Lucie scoreless through the first five innings. With no outs in the sixth, a Fryman single, Suozzi ground-rule double and Peroza walk loaded the bases for St. Lucie. DH Jaylen Palmer hit into a fielder’s choice, but a throwing error by the Jupiter first baseman allowed two runs to score and let Palmer advance all the way to second. A walk by left fielder Brandon McIlwain loaded the bases again, but two consecutive strikeouts ended the inning. With two outs and runners on first and second in the seventh inning, Palmer hit into another fielder’s choice, but a fielding error allowed both St. Lucie base runners to score. Ramirez, 18, hit a solo home run in the eighth. 

Ginn, a second-round pick in the 2020 draft, made his third start of the season and threw four scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.82. Ginn struck out five and gave up one hit, a two-out double in the first. Hardy entered to start the fifth and walked two of the first three batters he faced. With runners on the corners, Jupiter pulled off a double steal of second and home to take a 1-0 lead. A one-out single scored the second runner of the inning, giving Jupiter a 2-0 lead. McCall pitched scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh, but ran into trouble in the eighth. He walked two straight batters, then Taveras replaced him on the mound. Taveras gave up a single and a sacrifice fly, allowing both inherited runners to score. Taveras stayed on in the ninth and blew the save by giving up a two-run double.
