AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders (27-11) 7, Syracuse Mets (11-29) 5

Box Score

Besides a Travis Blankenhorn grand slam in the fifth, Syracuse could not find much run-production in a 7-5 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jeff McNeil performed well in his fifth rehab game as he hit a solo shot in the seventh to knot things up before the Railriders reclaimed the lead later in the inning.

  • Tylor Megill, RHP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 3.77 ERA
  • Bradley Roney, RHP: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 6.43 ERA

Starter Tylor Megill had a nice start for Syracuse until the fourth when the Railriders hit a two-RBI single to make the deficit three runs. Megill’s first allowed run was a solo shot in the second. Despite those two hiccups, the righty managed to strike out six batters on Friday night.

Relieving righty Bradley Roney had a tough night on the bump as he allowed four runs in just 1.2 innings.

AA: Portland Sea Dogs (24-16) 4, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-28) 1

Box Score

There wasn’t much going for the Binghamton offense on Friday night as a Will Toffey home run in the third was the Ponies’ lone run in a 4-1 loss to Portland. The Rumble Ponies had just three hits on the night with a Manny Rodriguez bunt single in the sixth and a two-out single in the ninth from Carlos Cortes.

The Rumble Ponies struck out 14 times as Portland starter Brayan Bello was responsible for 10 of them.

Starter Oscar De La Cruz had a fantastic start for the Ponies as he didn’t allow a base runner until the fifth and held a no-hitter until the sixth. However, the right-hander ran out of gas later on in the ballgame as he allowed two runs in the sixth and seventh.

Two runs allowed by righty Ryley Gilliam in eighth padded the Sea Dog lead.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (12-25) 7, Wilmington Blue Rocks (20-18) 5

Box Score

A clutch five-run ninth from Brooklyn lifted the Cyclones to a 7-5 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on the road. After having just four hits through eight innings, the Cyclones doubled their hit total in the ninth, which included a pair of two-run homers from Antoine Duplantis and Blake Tiberi.

A Juan Uriarte two-RBI single in the ninth also contributed to the comeback, as did a solo shot from Luke Ritter in the second. Brooklyn began the explosive ninth with a lead-off single from top prospect Francisco Álvarez, his only hit of the night.

  • Mitch Ragan, RHP: 2.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 K, 2.13 ERA
  • Jose Butto, RHP: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, K, 3 HR, 5.11 ERA

An excellent closing performance from Mitch Ragan helped propel Brooklyn to the Friday night win as he allowed no hits and struck out two in the game’s final two innings. On the flip side, starter Jose Butto had a tough night on the mound as he allowed three home runs through 4.1 innings.

A: Jupiter Hammerheads (21-19) 6, St. Lucie Mets (21-19) 5

Box Score

After scoring two runs to take the lead in the ninth, St. Lucie could not hold on as they fell to Jupiter 6-5 in extras. Despite the loss, eight different Mets garnered at least one hit, including two from Branden Fryman. One of Fryman’s hits was an RBI single in the 10th.

As a pitching staff, St. Lucie had a decent showing as it struck out 14 batters in the 11-inning affair, including six from starter Oscar Rojas. While the righty allowed six hits on the night, he only allowed one run across the plate in 5.2 innings.

Ultimately, righty Drake Nightengale took the loss as he allowed two RBI singles in the 11th to give Jupiter the victory.
