El Paso (13-5) 9, Las Vegas (5-13) 6  Box Score

The 51s were able to score six runs on twelve hits, in large part due den Dekker’s huge game. Den Dekker had three extra base hits, including two home runs: a solo shot in the fourth inning and a three run home run in the ninth. Smith has been a bit of a slump over the past few games and, most surprisingly, he has been striking out at a very high rate. He is 1 for his last 13 with 8 strikeouts.

Molina made his first start at Triple-A and he struggled with his control, walking four batters and throwing 92 pitches in less than five innings. Still, his Triple-A debut wasn’t quite as bad as the line looks when you consider that he was pitching in such a hitter friendly environment and the bullpen allowed two inherited runners to score. The bullpen struggled quite a bit as each of the four relievers who pitched allowed at least one run to score.

Erie (6-10) 7, Binghamton (6-8) 3  Box Score

Despite having 10 hits in the game (four of which went for extra bases), the Rumble Ponies could only push across three runs. Alonso broke out of his mini-slump, during which he was 2-for-14, with a solid three hit game. RBI doubles by Taylor, Urena, and Nick Sergakis (who was playing in his first game of the season after dealing with a minor injury) accounted for all three of Binghamton’s runs.

Gibbons made his first appearance with Binghamton since making a spot start there in July of 2015 and had mixed results in this outing. He allowed five baserunners and threw 61 pitches in less than three innings, but also suffered from poor defense and didn’t allow an earned run. Torres has looked excellent out of the bullpen early in 2018, as he has struck out eight batters in four scoreless innings.

Jupiter (14-3) 1, St. Lucie (7-9) 0  Box Score

The Mets were limited to just two hits as they were shutout in the rain-shortened game. As a team, St. Lucie is hitting just .217/.295/.326 in 2018 and their .621 OPS is last in the Florida State League.

Due to the poor weather, Campusano was called upon from Extended Spring Training to make the spot start. He pitched quite well, allowing just one earned run and keeping his pitch count at a reasonable 58 pitches despite the three walks. His start was cut short as the game was called after the top of the fifth inning.

Columbia (11-6) 5, Hickory (6-10) 0  Box Score

The Fireflies had no problems getting players on base in this game as nine hits, seven walks, and a hit by pitch meant that the team was threatening to score throughout the game. Sanchez has hit very well since returning from injury. Vasquez has showcased exceptional plate discipline so far this season, as evidenced by his 18:11 BB:K ratio.

Kay has pitched exceptionally well since returning from Tommy John surgery and this game was his best so far. Kay threw six scoreless innings to lower his season ERA to 1.69. The bullpen was also excellent, as they followed up Kay’s dominant performance with three scoreless innings. Hernandez has been exceptional since transitioning to the bullpen this season and he now has given up just one hit and struck out 14 in eight scoreless innings.
