Tacoma (26-24) 11, Las Vegas (20-30) 5   Box Score

The 51s went just 1-7 with runners in scoring position, with the one hit being an RBI single by Kevin Kaczmarski, which was also his first Triple-A hit. Den Dekker and Monell continued their solid seasons as emergency depth pieces, while Colon has started to get it going with his new team. Plawecki caught all nine innings for the first time on his rehab stint, and went 0-3 but still reached base via a walk.

Martin struggled in his second start with the 51s after throwing four scoreless innings in his first. Robles continued to pitch effectively, while Regnault continued his impressive May by striking out the last batter of the seventh and the first batter of the eighth before allowing a triple that Peterson allowed to score. Peterson gave up four runs in what was a blip in an otherwise very good season. His May has been less consistent after a dominant April. Bautista got a couple outs to relieve Peterson as he aims to turn his season around.

Today, Andrew Church is scheduled to make his first start for the 51s, with P.J. Conlon penciled in for Monday. However, Conlon’s start matches up nicely with the Mets’ doubleheader on Monday, and with Conlon already being on the 40-man, he would be a very logical option to briefly call up as the 26th man.

Binghamton (25-22) 3, Bowie (22-25) 1 Box Score

Joseph Shaw took the hill for the Rumble Ponies and tossed a gem in his eighth start of the season. Shaw stumbled out of the gate, allowing a leadoff single and then a run-scoring double three batters later. After the initial struggles, Shaw retired 19 of the final 22 batters that he faced, turning in his most impressive start of the season. Shaw, a 24-year-old from Ennis, Texas, pitched seven innings in a start for the first time all season, but he received a no-decision.

Daniel Zamora came on in relief of Shaw in the eighth inning. After allowing a leadoff single, Zamora struck out the next batter and coerced a double play to get out of the inning unscathed. Zamora, who was acquired from the Pirates in exchange for Josh Smoker, has not allowed a run in his last six outings spanning seven innings. Eric Hanhold pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his seventh save of the year.

In the last three games, the Rumble Ponies have hosted 17,615 fans, their highest total in a three-game stretch in franchise history, Tim Heiman tweeted.

While trailing 1-0 in the second inning, left fielder Kevin Taylor struck a leadoff double. Taylor scored two batters later on a double by center fielder John Mora. After the run-scoring double, the Binghamton offense went to sleep, scattering three hits over the next five innings. Tim Tebow was 1-for-3 and currently has a .713 OPS on the season.

The story of the night for the Rumble Ponies, once again, was Peter Alonso. The first baseman got off to a torrid start in April, slugging his way to a .408/.505/.776 slash line with  seven home runs. He started to slow down in May, and it appeared as though pitchers in the Eastern League had adjusted to the power-hitter. However, Alonso looks like he is back to crushing baseballs, and he hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give Binghamton the lead. He has hit three home runs in his last four games, and his 1.122 OPS is second in the Eastern League.

The St Lucie Mets’ game against the Daytona Tortugas was suspended in the fifth inning due to rain. The Mets are leading the Tortugas 5-3 in the fifth inning. It will be completed on Sunday.

Columbia (26-21) 9, Greenville (11-36) 2 Box Score

  • LHP Anthony Kay (2-2, 3.59 ERA): 7 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 8 K
  • RHP Darwin Ramos (0-0, 4.74 ERA): IP, H, ER, BB
  • RHP Conner O’Neil (3-0, 3.60 ERA): IP, H, K

Anthony Kay got the start for Columbia and cruised through the first four innings. Staked to a 7-0 lead, Kay ran into trouble in the fifth inning. Kay, a Stony Brook native, allowed two one-out hits to put baserunners on second and third. With two runners in scoring position, Kay was able to sneak out of the jam by inducing two lineouts to end the inning. Kay allowed a solo home run in the sixth inning, but otherwise had a tremendous outing to lower his ERA from 4.04 to 3.59 for the season.

Conner O’Neil closed out the game for Columbia. The 2017 seventh-round pick out of Cal State Northridge dropped his ERA from 4.00 to 3.60 for the season.

The Fireflies offense got going in the second inning thanks to some sloppy defense from the Drive. With one runner on base and two outs, Ali Sanchez reached on a fielding error that put runners on the corners. Following the fielding error, a wild pitch allowed Raphael Gladu to score from third base. Jeremy Vasquez continued his hot hitting with a run-scoring single to give Columbia a 2-0 lead. Wuilmer Becerra followed Vasquez with a single of his own to put runners on the corners, and Matt Winaker knocked in two with a triple to give the Fireflies a 4-0 lead.

Columbia utilized three hits and another fielding error to scratch across three more runs in the fourth inning. Vasquez was once again involved in the scoring, reaching on a throwing error that scored Tiberi. Vasquez’ OPS is now at .899 for the season, leading all Fireflies.
