Memphis (68-39) 9, Las Vegas (51-56) 4   Box Score

Alonso, who’s been heating up lately, had his six-game hit streak ended but still kept his on-base streak alive at ten games with a walk. Smith continued to hit solidly since his demotion; he has hit in six of his seven games and last night hit the second home run since he was demoted. Colon had his second straight multi-hit game and is hitting .316 in his last ten games. The solid Patrick Kivlehan also collected two hits, and Ty Kelly and Zach Borenstein drove in a run each.

  • RHP Nabil Crismatt (L, 2-3, 9.41 ERA): 4.1 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 6 K
  • LHP Matt Purke (2-1, 6.04 ERA): 1.2 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
  • LHP Ian Krol (2-0, 3.14 ERA): 2.0 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K
  • RHP Gerson Bautista (1-1, 5.13 ERA): 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, K

Crismatt had his worst of his five Las Vegas starts thus far, getting pummeled for 12 hits and 8 runs. He has a 15.55 ERA in his last three starts after pitching six scoreless innings on July 13. In those three starts he has given up 26 hits in just 11 innings. Purke has had a rough month as well but got five outs without allowing a run last night, despite the two walks. Walks have been a problem for him this year. Krol has limited runs for Las Vegas, but he’s allowed a lot of baserunners in July, with a 2.03 WHIP and .364 opponents batting average. Bautista now has a 3.60 ERA in July despite a .302 opponents batting average and 1.50 WHIP.

Altoona (56-47) 4, Binghamton (49-57) 3  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies didn’t have a ton of offense in Sunday afternoon’s game as they scored only three runs on eight hits. The offense had opportunities to score more runs, but were just 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base. Gimenez and Toffey each had two-hit games to continue their strong starts with Binghamton. Gimenez stole his third base in seven games since his promotion to Binghamton, bringing his season total to 31.

Kilome was making his Mets organization debut after being traded by the Phillies for Asdrubal Cabrera on Friday. He was solid in his first Binghamton start, as he walked only one batter and threw 65 of his 95 pitches for strikes. Most of the damage against Kilome came in a rough sixth inning, in which he allowed three runs, one of which scored on an error that he made. Taylor continued his stretch of impressive pitching with a perfect eighth inning. Taylor has a 1.63 ERA since June 1.

Charlotte (54-47) 10, St. Lucie (40-62) 2  Box Score

The Mets offense struggled in this game as were held to only two runs on eight hits. Frazier played five innings at third base in his second rehab game and went hitless in two at bats. Carpio continued his hot hitting and came a triple short of the cycle. His home run to lead off the first inning was his ninth of the season, a number which is quite impressive considering he entered 2018 with just four for his entire career.

Kay had been excellent in his first four starts with St. Lucie, but this was his worst start of the season as his control completely deserted him. Kay’s six walks are a career high and he through just over half of his pitches for strikes (50 strikes out of 92 pitches). Four relievers followed Kay and, while none of them gave up more than one earned run, the game was already out of reach. Villines has gone nine straight appearances without allowing a run.

Columbia (49-53) vs. Augusta (51-53)

Columbia’s game against Augusta was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to rain. The Fireflies were leading 2-0 and starting pitcher Chris Viall had struck out five over four shutout innings. The game will be resumed on August 31.

Brooklyn (23-19) 7, West Virginia (16-26) 1  Box Score

Despite going just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, the Cyclones still managed to push across seven runs on ten hits. Rodriguez and Lagrange both kept up their hot streaks and are hitting .345 and .359 over their last 10 games, respectively. As a team, the Cyclones are fourth in the New York-Penn League with a .688 OPS.

Vilera continued his dominance of the New York-Penn League by throwing 92 pitches over 7 shutout innings and striking out 8 batters. This start pushes Vilera’s scoreless streak up to 28.2 innings; the last run against him scored in his July 5 start. Vilera leads the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA. Gilliam has been excellent in six appearances with the Cyclones as well and has a 9:2 K:BB ratio over 6.0 shutout innings.

Kingsport (19-18) 7, Burlington (11-27) 6  Box Score

Despite picking up just six hits in the game, the Mets still managed to push across seven runs with some timely hitting (they were 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position). Kelenic hasn’t hit much since his promotion to Kingsport, but he’s still getting on base at a very high rate as he has walked 14 times in 18 games. He has also stolen nine bases without being caught so far in his professional career. Vientos has 11 hits in his last 29 at bats with four home runs.

Acosta made his sixth start of the season for Kingsport and it was his best of the year so far. He went five innings for the second straight start and only allowed four runners to reach base. Acosta has 25 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. Hickey allowed a run for his second straight appearances after four straight scoreless outings to begin his professional career.

GCL Marlins (12-22) 6, GCL Mets (19-16) 1  Box Score

The Mets got eleven men on base, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and could only bring one run home. The lone run scored when Nelson Mompierre drove home Reyes with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

  • RHP Oscar Rojas (L, 3-2, 3.38 ERA) 3.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
  • RHP Franklin Parra (0-0, 0.00 ERA) 1.0 IP, H, BB
  • RHP Jender De Jesus (0-1, 3.52 ERA) 3.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K

Rojas had been very good so far in 2018, but struggled greatly in this start, giving up season-highs in hits and runs while pitching a season-low 3.2 innings. Parra, who was draft in the 11th round of the 2018 draft, pitched a scoreless inning in his professional debut.
