Salt Lake Bees 16 – Las Vegas 51s 2 Box Score
- Phillip Evans 1-4, R, HR, RBI, K
- Kevin Plawecki 1-3, R, 2B
- Travis Taijeron 1-3, RBI
The 51s were down early, and they were not able to really get back into the game against Bees’ starter Luis Diaz despite his 6.14 ERA. It is emblematic of a 51s offense that has been feat or famine throughout the month of June. After getting a scheduled day off, Amed Rosario had a rough day going 0-3, and he made his 13th error in the field.
- Donovan Hand (L, 1-3) 5.0 IP, 12 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR
- Kevin McGowan 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER,1 K, HR
- Hansel Robles 1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER
The Bees jumped all over Hand early getting a three run lead in the top of the first. The Bees would continue to pound away at the 51s socring runs in every inning but the second. Most troubling was another poor outing from Robles. He now has an 8.76 ERA and a .345 batting average against him. This goes a long way to explaining why a Mets team in need of relief help called up Chasen Bradford over him.
Bowie Baysox 5 – Binghamton Rumble Ponies 4
Box Score
- Champ Stuart 2-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI
- Luis Guillorme 0-2 , 2 BB
- Gustavo Nunez 1-3, R, 2B
Stuart carried the Rumble Ponies offense providing all four runs for the team with his two homers. The first one gave the team a 2-1 lead, and the second one brought the team within one run. Unfortunately, Stuart had no ninth inning heroics in store. With a runner on second and two outs, Stuart struck out to end the game.
- Corey Oswalt 6.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K
- Corey Taylor (BS, 5) (L 4-4) 2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, K, 2 HR
- Tim Peterson 1.0 IP, 2 H
Oswalt was effective in his first start since being activated from the 7-day disabled list. If not for the injury, he might have been able to throw more than 72 pitches. Instead, the team brought on Taylor, who allowed two home runs. These were the first two home runs the sinkerballer has allowed this season, and the outing broke a streak of six scoreless innings and 12 appearances without allowing multiple runs in a game.
Charlotte Stone Crabs 13 – St. Lucie Mets 10
Box Score
- Michael Paez 3-5, R, 2B, RBI
- Peter Alonso 2-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI
- Patrick Mazeika 2-5, 3 R, RBI
- Eudor Garcia 2-3, 2 R, 2B, RBI
In his first game in St. Lucie, Paez showed he was ready for the call-up hitting second in the lineup and helping ignite the offense. Behind him, his former Cyclones teammate Alonso had his first multi-extra base hit game of the season. Garcia continues to rake since being activated earlier this week. Overall, every player in the lineup except Jhoan Urena got on base. It was an odd game for Mazeika. He continued his hitting, and he had to deal with a Stone Crabs team that was running wild against him. Overall, there were six stolen base attempts with three of them getting thrown out.
- Joe Shaw 5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K, HR
- Joshua Torres 2.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, BB, 2 K
The Stone Crabs annihilated the Mets pitching scoring 13 runs on 17 hits with five of those 17 hits going for extra bases. While the pitching was bad, the defense might have been even worse. The team made four errors in the field behind them.
Kannapolis Intimidators 8 – Columbia Fireflies 5
Box Score
- Jacob Zanon 3-5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI
- Andres Gimenez 2-5, R,
- Tim Tebow 2-4, 2 R, 2 2B
Since coming off the disabled list, Zanon has been incredible. In his two games played, he is 4-9 with three runs, a double, homer, three RBI, and a stolen base. His season average is up to .538. Unfortunately, Zanon wasn’t enough as the Fireflies defense failed their pitching leading to a nightmare of a fifth inning that the offense could not offset.
- Blake Taylor 4.2 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
- Adam Atkins 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 K
Taylor pitched well through the first four innings before it all came crashing down in the fifth. A Luis Carpio error to lead off the inning got things started. The Intimidators would load the bases only just one hit. Taylor would walk two batters in, and then Atkins gave up two hard hit balls allowing all of his inherited runners to score. Even with Zanon’s hot hitting, the Fireflies would be unable to come all the way back from what was then a 7-1 deficit.
Brooklyn Cyclones 5 – Vermont Lake Monsters 3
Box Score
- Carlos Sanchez 1-4, 2 R, BB
- Jeremy Wolf 1-3, 2B, RBI, SB
- Ian Strom 1-3, RBI, BB. SB
Wolf has continued to be the standout player for the Cyclones in the early part of the season leading the team in batting average, doubles, slugging, and RBI.
- Trent Johnson 5.0 IP, 4 H, R, ER, BB, 4 K
- Keaton Aldridge 0.1 IP, Save
The Mets 16th round draft pick from last year certainly had a terrific start to his season. The only earned run he allowed was in his last inning as he was tiring. This is a huge step forward for him after he pitched to a 6.61 ERA last year in Kingsport . With Aldridge getting the last out of the game, he recorded his first save as a professional.
Kingsport Mets 10 – Burlington Royals 5
Box Score
- Ranfy Adon 2-6. 3 R, 3B, 3 RBI, SB
- Edgardo Fermin 2-5, 2 R, RBI
- Wagner Lagrange 3-4, R, 2 RBI
Adon showed why he is considered one of the Mets top prospects with a huge game in the season opener for Kingsport. In the sixth inning where Kingport blew the game open, it was Adon’s two RBI triple that was the key hit in the inning, and perhaps the game.
- Jose Geraldo 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR
- Marbin Montijo 2. IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K
Aside from a third inning home run, Geraldo kept Burlington at bay. It as a good way to start the year for Geraldo with this being the first time in his professional career where he was a part of the starting rotation at the beginning of the year. Not just that, but he was the Opening Day starter.
DSL Mets2 – Game Suspended
DSL Twins 4 – DSL Mets1 0
Box Score
Bohorquez’s seconds inning single was the only hit the DSL Mets would muster on the day. Overall, the team had only three base runners.
- Miguel Ramirez 5.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 K
- Ramon Guzman 4.0 IP, 4 H, 4 K
In the piggyback starts, we saw Guzman pitch more effectively than his counter-part. In what was a promising sign for both pitchers, neither one walked a batter, and they both had good strikeout numbers.

Was this Urena’s first game in LF? I noticed that Garcia was at 3B and Alonso was at 1B. It could help him move up to AA.
First time I saw him there, too. But his record says he’s played 3 games there this year.
