Pawtucket (6-4) 5, Syracuse (6-5) 4  Box Score

The Mets pushed across four runs on eight hits in Sunday’s loss. All but two of the team’s hits went for extra bases. Tim Tebow got the Mets on the board with a RBI single in the second inning and Herrera added another run the following inning with a double. The offense was held without another run until the seventh, when Gomez hit a two run home run to bring the Mets within one run, but they would be unable to complete the comeback.

  • RHP Zach Lee (0-0, 7.36 ERA) 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, 4 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Tyler Bashlor (L, 0-2, 20.50 ERA) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, BB, K, HB
  • RHP Jacob Rhame (1-0, 9.53 ERA) 1.0 IP, K

Lee made his second start of the season and, while this was a major improvement over last week’s 2.2 inning/5 earned run outing, Lee still struggled with control as he walked four batters and needed 87 pitches to get through just 4.2 innings. Bashlor came in to the game to get the last out of the fifth inning, but his rough start to season continued when he gave up three runs (including two home runs) in the sixth inning. Eric Hanhold and Rhame both threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Binghamton (3-2) vs. Erie (4-3)

Binghamton’s game against the SeaWolves was suspended in the first inning due to rain. The game will be continued on June 24. This is the sixth time out of eleven scheduled games that the Rumble Ponies have had a game postponed.

St. Lucie (7-4) 4, Florida (5-6) 2  Box Score

The Mets offense rode a big three run fourth inning to victory in Sunday afternoon’s game. Cortes drove in the first run during that inning with a double, while Meyer and Blake Tiberi followed with RBI singles. Matt Winaker (who has started this season in a 0-for-20 slump) added an insurance run with a groundout in the eighth inning. Vasquez had his second straight multi-hit game and has walked almost as much as he has struck out early this season (6:7 BB:K ratio).

Rennie continued his hot start to the season, needing just 80 pitches to get through six inning and not giving up his first run of the season until his final inning of work. After struggling in Brooklyn in 2018, Campusano has been impressive pitching in a long relief/swingman role so far and he struck out four in two perfect innings in this outing. Renteria’s ERA looks pretty ugly, but he does have an 8:1 K:BB ratio through 4.1 innings.

Columbia (4-6) 12, Lexington (6-4) 5  Box Score

The Fireflies offense put together an incredible performance as they scored twelve runs on seventeen hits. Mauricio has been a hit machine in his first taste of full season ball and he now has an eight game hitting streak that includes four multi-hit games. However, while it is hard to critique a start like Mauricio’s, it should be noted that all but one of his hits have been singles and he has just a single walk. Sharp has started to heat up over the past few games, but he does have 14 strikeouts in just 30 plate appearances. Walter Rasquin, Bradley Marquez, and Anthony Dirocie also had multiple hits in this game.

Following a 10 strikeout outing which opened some eyes , Nunez was not quite as dominant in this start, but he still struck out seven batters without walking anybody. This gives him a very impressive 17:0 K:BB ratio over 11.1 innings pitched. Zabaleta has started his season with six straight appearances in which he has thrown a scoreless inning. He has struck out seven batters and walked nobody over that span.
